Love the built in bookshelf and how the shelf doesn't go all the way to the floor.

I've always been drawn to British things, and after watching Escape To The County on Netflix, I realize that this is my style.  Warm colors, relaxed interiors with the feeling of inherited pieces, art, books, flowers, children, dogs.

Its totally me.

What about you?  What have you been pinning on Pinterest?  Do you Pin?  Lets chat and share links in the comments!

Pinterest Inspiration Success!

Back in August I did a post about finding clothing style inspiration on Pinterest.  The first photo I linked was this one -

You can find that post here.

I really liked the look of this black and white checked shirt with the pink cardigan and the pearls.  I have a pink cardi, deeper pink that this one though, so I began to search out a checked shirt.  It wasn't easy to find, and in the end I found a larger check than this one is, but I really like it.

I met my friend Jen for breakfast today so I wore the black and white checked shirt, pink cardi, and pearls, with black leggings and my black booties.

Here's a few photos I took in my van while I was waiting for my friend to arrive.

I did not get a full length photo.  I really like this shirt because it is long and covers the bum and the belly area.  That's a win win in my book!

I really like the way my outfit turned out.  I actually like the bigger check better than the inspiration photo, and I like the deeper shade of pink of my cardigan than the one in the inspiration photo.

What do you think?  Do you look up clothes on Pinterest?  Have you been inspired by something you've seen on there and had success copying it?

You can find more inspiration on my Fashion Over 40 board.

More Clothes Talk

I've spent sometime this weekend pinning more clothing that I like.  Do you ever look at clothes on Pinterest?  I put fashion over 40 into the search bar and up come all kinds of interesting stuff!

Here's the link to my fashion pinterest  board if you want to see more.  As a disclaimer I want to say that I might not have pinned each pin because I like the whole outfit.  I may have just liked the way something was put together with accessories, or the color of something.

Do you have fashion boards on pinterest?  Will you share the links with us?  I'd love to see what your pinning!

Welcome Autumn!

I so agree!

I know many of you are still having very hot weather - we are having very warm days, but the cools nights have arrived and this next week we are to cool down in the daytime, too.

Soon it will be time for sweaters, and cider, and campfires, and hot chocolate.

This evening we are celebrating, in happy coincidence with the Autumnal Equinox, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins birthday!  Yes, it's Hobbit Day and Lindsay is hosting her annual gathering!  I'm slow roasting a turkey and there will all sorts of delights to please a Hobbit!

There will be dancing and I am hoping to teach a Scottish Country Dance we have learned!  More about that soon, but Sarah and I attended a Scottish Country Dance group, with a few friends,  and are learning to do these dances!

If you love autumn too, you may want to check out my Pinterest board.

Pinterest: My Paintings Board

My Pinterest 'Paintings' board has many paintings I admire.  Many are of domestic scenes, but the ones I pin most often are of people reading.

I find them interesting.  It makes me think of how important reading used to be in the times before technology became readily available to us in our homes.  It's interesting that the various artists thought that a person reading a book was a good subject to paint.

Reading has always been important to me, and I hope it continues to be until I die.  I hope I can still see well enough to read!

If you'd like to see more of the paintings on my board you can find it here:

Inspiration

Here are some things that I've been pinning lately.

Tartan Shoe by Cole Haan

Silver flatware.  Beautiful!

Inspiration!  My kitchen is a similar color, and I have white trim.  I love this sink, and I am thinking of these kinds of counter tops!

I really like this idea!

Dreaming of Autumn!

Friendship: A Proper Chat

I am in the mood for a right proper chat this morning.  I'm even going to include a few links, for you to enjoy.

First off, with blogger being weird, not all of the comments (which are moderated), come into my email anymore.  I do check the blog dashboard usually once a day, but this past weekend I checked everyday, and there were none.  Late last night all of the sudden there were 10!  I published them right away.  I don't know when you may have commented, but they are published now!  Dotsie and Debbie seem to be the main regular commenters that this affects.

know many of you are Downton Abbey fans.  I thought you might like to see this photo floating around FB from a Harper's Bazaar cover shoot, of the women of Downton.

From the left by character - Mrs Hughes, Daisy (in front), Lady Mary, Mrs. Patmore, Phyllis Baxter (Cora's lady's maid), Lady Edith, Anna Bates, Lady Cora, Lady Rose.

I often get asked about Lindsay and Joseph's 'courtship'.  Here is a post on Like Mother, Like Daughter that pretty much sums up our view of the whole courtship/dating with a purpose vs traditional dating, etc.  That Auntie Leila is a wise woman.

I have been having some lovely chats with my darling niece who lives far away from me.  She sent me a link to this blog post at Generation Cedar - The Good Life and What Matters - What School Doesn't Teach  I told my niece that Yes!  This has been my heart about education for years.

For those of you on Pinterest - have you seen this board?  Tweed and Tartan.  Be still my heart!  I love it!

Here are a few samples

They all make me want to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

We had quite a storm blow through last night.
It poured and the wind blew pretty well, but no damage here.  Lindsay and Joseph were here for a piano lesson and a movie and arrived home to no power.  It was still not on this morning.

Photos during the storm

 And after

We love how the sun shines on the tops of our trees but we are starting to be in shadow in the late afternoons.  During the Autumn it is stunning with the sun on the changing leaves!

Rachel has her cello lesson this morning, and Tim is working second shift right now, so it will be tricky to time our main meal together.  We try to eat together with Tim on his schedule so when he is on second shift we do our main meal at lunch.   I may just do BLT's!

Tomorrow we are going to breakfast with Tim's brother Dan and our sister in law Sharon.  I'm looking forward to it.

What are you up to today?  Have any good links to share?  Let's chat!

Home Keeping: Crochet

I had a coaster project pinned on my Hooks and Needles Pinterest board that I have been wanting to try.  I haven't crocheted much in the last few years, but this was basic - chain stitch, slip stitch, double crochet and single crochet.

I kept the pattern pulled up on the Macbook but didn't have to look at it much once I got going.

I didn't have the proper size hook, which was G, so I used an H hook, and yarn from my stash.

I was happy how it turned out.

They are not very big and I did this red one in about 15 minutes.

I decided to try in in a finer yarn with a smaller hook, this time an F.
I like this project very much, and want to try it using wool yarn.  These would make delightful hostess gifts, or birthday, or Christmas.  Very sweet and useful.

Here is the link to the directions to this project - 1893 Circle Motif coaster.

If you give it a try will you let me know how it turns out?  We could share photos of our finished products.  That would be fun!

Apple Cider Cupcakes

With Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting!

You can find the recipe here.

I've never made my own caramel sauce before, but I must say it is delicious!

Only Kyle ate a whole cupcake this evening - we girls decided it was too late to eat, but tomorrow!

Let me know if you try them.

Lunch With A Friend and A Recipe

Yesterday, my friend Amy came over, with her delightful children.

She and I are in charge of the Ladies Tea at church, this coming Tuesday, and needed to talk last minute stuff.  We also are coordinating a Christmas dinner for the church on the Sunday before Christmas.  Such fun!

Anyway, she wanted to bring her fabulous pumpkin soup and a yummy salad for us (and Rachel) and I took care of planning the kids lunch.

I made Ham and Cheese sliders for the kids, which we ended up having with our soup, too!  They were so good, though next time I want to use a tad less brown sugar.  I found the recipe on Pinterest, and it is a bit sweet and savory, but mostly it is delicious!

Up close of Amy's wonderful salad - spring greens, Bosc pears, spicy pecans, craisins, and a homemade balsamic vinegar dressing.

Curried pumpkin soup - with a dollop of sour cream which I had already swirled into my soup.  It is so, so delicious.

That girl can cook!

We got all our work done too, and we did an impromptu rearrangement in Kyle's room, that I've been wanting to get too.

Did mention that she is a great friend?

Here is the recipe for the sandwich sliders.

24 dinner rolls made into ham and cheese sandwiches.  (I simply put the meat and cheese on the rolls.)  Put the sandwiches into a baking pan 9x13 or larger.

Then you pour a sauce of 1 stick of butter, 2 tablespoons of mustard (the yellow stuff), 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/3 cup brown sugar.  Heat on the sauce on the stove until it all blends together and starts to boil.  Pour sauce over sandwiches and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

They were so good!  I'll definitely be making these again - the kids loved them and so did the adults!  If you give them a try, let me know!
