As the family event planner for so many years, I naturally turned my mind to Thanksgiving in October. My daughter in law, Kayleigh, and I had a conversation about a veteran that she helps by giving him pedicures and now she helps run errands for him, too. Mr. Charles lives alone, and doesn't have family in the area. I mentioned to Kay that she should invite him to come for Thanksgiving, which she did.
He was reluctant however, because of his friend, who is also alone. They do holidays together. I told Kay, "Well have Mr. Charles bring him, too! They are both very welcome!" We are looking forward to meeting them.
Cool thing is my dad is a veteran too, and I can see them having lots of conversation and some football watching in my parents living room!
So then plans turn to, who in the family is coming to the meal. This year everyone, but Sarah and Dave, will be here. So that's 13 plus Mr. Charles and his friend. That makes 15. We might have a few others as well. I hate to hear that anyone is alone without a place to celebrate.
We have planned out the food. This year, with Kyle not living at home, even he will be contributing to the meal! He's bringing dinner rolls!
I have plenty of dishes, glassware, flatware, and I've bought my napkins already!
I'm going to cook two turkeys. One on Tuesday night into Wednesday, and one Wednesday night into Thursday. I slow roast them, breast side down. To read how I do it click {here}. It truly is perfect everytime!
I am making two turkeys so that we can have left over meals to send home with our guests!
Mr. Charles is bringing 4 pies! Kayleigh is doing mash potatoes and sweet potato casserole. Mom is making her cranberry salad. Rachel is probably bringing other veggies, and sometimes her husband Wes, likes to smoke meat and bring it, too! I will make stuffing and gravy as well as the turkeys.
I'm looking forward to it!
Now, with thanksgiving just two weeks away, I am thinking of how we'll place the tables, etc.
All good stuff!
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
I found this hymn that my friend Jane, had shared with me in 2020.
- In heav’nly love abiding,No change my heart shall fear; And safe is such confiding,For nothing changes here. The storm may roar without me,My heart may low be laid,But God is round about me,And can I be dismayed?
- Wherever He may guide me,No want shall turn me back;My Shepherd is beside me,And nothing can I lack. His wisdom ever waketh,His sight is never dim;He knows the way He taketh,And I will walk with Him.
- Green pastures are before me,Which yet I have not seen;Bright skies will soon be o’er me,Where darkest clouds have been.My hope I cannot measure,My path to life is free;My Savior has my treasure,And He will walk with me.
