Fall Foliage Trip

On Saturday, I took my mom on a drive around our area to show her some beautiful trees I'd seen as I've been out and about.

Here is a video of a local small neighborhood.

On Monday, we took Mom and Dad and went to Jim Thorpe to ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.

The drive to Jim Thorpe was about 2 hours and it was beautiful. The colors this year are a bit more muted. We've not had much rain this autumn and they said that in Jim Thorpe they are in a drought.

The whole trip took about 45 minutes.

This wooden post is an old telegraph line!

I happened to catch the waterfall as we went by. Do you see it at the bottom of the photo below?

After the train we went to lunch and then drove around the area. It was perfect weather and just a lovely day out.

Our area should be at peak this weekend or close after that. Such a lovely time of the year.

I enjoyed the videos of Trump from this weekend. He was in Lancaster on Sunday, after working in McDonald's near Philly. Ended the day at the Steeler's game in Pittsburg. Let me tell you, Pennsylvania is Trump country!

Foliage and Knitting

One of my maple trees in the front is looking so beautiful.  I see this tree when I look out my front window.  This tree framed by my new gold curtains is a beautiful sight.

The other tree is still mostly green, though there is change, and several of our trees on the property are still mostly green.  Such an interesting year.

So far this fall I've knit three cowls, two scarves, a baby hat and I am working on a hat for me!  This is the softest yarn and a lovely heathered grey.

I'm starting to get busy on my list of gifts for people, and I believe that we will continue with our pattern of gift giving.  I'll talk about that in a post soon.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Hawk Falls

Saturday, Tim, Rachel, and I went exploring in an area of our beautiful state that we've never really spent time in - the Poconos.  Its about 2 hours from our home and we've only passed through that area one time coming home from Vermont.

Rachel had a rare Saturday off from work, so we hopped in the car and headed out.  We'd already looked online for things to do, and thought that Hawk Falls, in the Jim Thorpe area, sounded like something we all could do.

The trail was about a mile long, a bit rocky in places but easy, I'd say.  I was more concerned about the return trip because it would be mostly uphill, but Tim found me a nice walking stick and it was just fine!

When we got the the falls, I was so glad I said, "yes," to this trip!

One of the things that was so amazing is that this is not far from the turnpike - in fact a huge bridge was visible from the falls and we could hear vehicles the whole time we were there!

It was such a beautiful day!

After the hike we drove around exploring a bit more, and then looked online for a restaurant.  What did we do before smart phones?

One that interested us all was Roadies!  It said scenic views and they were right!
It was a bit windy, and there were a few pesty bees, but we enjoyed our lunch and the view!

We then explored a reservoir and park, and went to an antique mall in Weissport.  Tomorrow, I'll show you what I found there!

The days are fleeting and we are thankful for this day with our girl, and the time spent building memories together.

Five Things I Love About Fall

Its warmer than I'd like for Fall, but it's going to cool down this week.  I love Fall so I thought I'd share some of my pins from my Autumn Pinterest board, and talk about five things I love.

I love going down roads with leaves on them.  I love it even more to drive under falling leaves!

New Hampshire

I love Fall road trips.  There is little I like more than a good Fall foliage trip!  I can't get enough of the changing trees!

Our own property has a lot of beautiful trees on it.  I love to sit outside at this time of year and walk on our property.
If you've been around my blog for any length of time, you know I adore autumn.  It's truly my favorite time of the year. I thought I'd ...

I love decorating our home and property with lights, pumpkins, and candles!
Embrace the beauty of nature this autumn season.

I love getting out the plaid wool blankets.  When the nights get cool, I love having them available to lay an extra layer on our beds.

I'm sure you know there will be more than FIVE things I love about autumn, and I'll be sharing those in the days to come!

The Trees Were At Peak In Our Area This Week

It seems as if the leaves changed color a bit late this year, or at least the trees that turn red and orangey red.  We had quite a bit of gold a few weeks ago and no red.  Then during this last week the big change happened.

I showed you my trees on Monday - here's a glimpse of them again

Funny thing is, they started to really change last weekend and this is how they looked at the beginning of the week.

Here is what they look like now

Most of the color you see with this one is from our neighbors' oak tree across the road.  Which is another interesting thing - that oak is beautiful this year, usually it just turns brown and drops leaves.

Its sad how quickly they changed and dropped but I really enjoyed them this week!

I thought you might like to see a bit of the area where I live.

I find it interesting watching this video, because I was not looking at my phone while videoing, I was watching the road carefully.  Such a weird perspective as it feels as if I must have turned my head etc, but I did not, so rest easy.

Have a happy weekend!

Late Autumn Morning

My Red Sunset Maple in the front yard! So beautiful!

I'm headed out to get groceries and to buy the hot dogs and buns for our Fall Fest on Sunday.  We'll be roasting them over a campfire, and having all kinds of fun - hay rides, an outdoor viewing of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, a candy toss.

I'm wanting to string lights in these trees and have some tables and chairs set under them.  It's going to be a good time!  If I don't post on the weekend you'll know why, but I promise photos and a full report on Monday!

Have a great weekend!  Sunday is November 1st already!

A Gift From My Son

Kyle very proudly brought me something held behind his back this afternoon.

He told me, "guess what it is."

I said something silly like "a pickle" since that usually gets a funny response from him.

He said "Mom....."  Then brought it out.

The most beautiful leaves from one of my Red Sunset maples, that are now beginning to turn.

I said "Oh, Kyle!  They're beautiful!  They're my favorite!"

He said "I know!  I got them from one of the trees in the front. And I did it like this," he added, pointing to his feet with only socks on.

I grinned, and expressed my thanks.

He grinned and went away pleased with himself.

I wasn't about to complain about him going out without his shoes on such a rainy day.  No way.

I love that boy.  He melts my heart.
