Garden and Glasses

My cottage garden is looking lovely, in spite of the iris being almost done. The roses, poppies and peonies are beautiful.

One reason this garden brings me joy is that I am able to cut some of them and enjoy them in the house.

Take this gorgeous peony for example.

I have several small groupings of this beautiful peony around the house. Delightful.

This peony was given to my by my mom who no longer wanted it. She says now that she regretted that, but I suppose she's glad now that she lives here at our home! I cut some for her room on Saturday!

I ordered sunglasses and readers this week, and they arrived this weekend!

Not the best photos, but they'll do. I got a five pack of readers, so I can keep a pair in my purse, next to my bed, next to my chair, etc. They have blue light blocking as well. The sunglasses are polarized.
Trying to protect my eyes!

I hope you had a nice holiday weekend.

Yesterday, two friends came over for lunch. We ate homemade grilled hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, and a delicious corn salad that Betsy shared on her blog {here}. The only thing I didn't add is cucumber, as I didn't have any. It was very good. We also had fresh picked local strawberries, and English Apple Pie and Ice Cream for dessert.

It was a really nice day.

New Eyewear

My old frames were 5 years old, and I had the lenses changed out one time.  When I went for an eye exam in the late summer of 2016, I was surprised to find that I had a cataract on my right eye!

That was taken care of in December, then my "eyeball wizard" as my dad says, did a quick laser treatment to deal with a bit of thickening in the scar tissue.

After all the recovery time, I finally got an appointment scheduled to have a new exam.  I was very excited because I needed new frames and the prescription no longer was right due to my surgery!

Five years ago when I first got the old frames.

Glasses on the left the old glasses, on the right new glasses.  The photos on the right were taken this morning while I was on a job site with Tim.  Grey and gloomy day with some rain.

I made two videos yesterday to send to Emma, and I decided to share them here, too!  Does anyone else think they sound like a dork on video, or is it just me?

I am very happy with my glasses and I think they look fresh and young!

Home Education: A Bit of Vision Aid

Sometimes a boy needs a bit of help to see clearly!

We had no idea that he needed help with his vision - he is reading above grade level and is a year a head in math.  However, as soon as he had them he was noticing small details on a game on my phone and noticing that things looked bigger with the glasses on than when they were off.

It'll be interesting to see just how he does now that he has glasses.  Oh, and he would want you to know that the frames are camo!

Silly boy!

New Glasses

I got my new glasses last Saturday.  It all started about a year ago when I realized that I could see better to read without my glasses.  My eye doctor had been warning me for years that this was coming, so I wasn't shocked.  I gave him a call to schedule our yearly appointments and much to my disappointment they no longer took our insurance.  This is a real bummer because the whole family likes him - he's great with the kids, his office people are wonderful.  Sadness all around on our part.

I decide that I will wait until our friend from church who is an eye doctor opens his new place and then go see him.  In the mean time I stop wearing my glasses and I get very used to that.  The office opens and I start to say "I need to call and schedule my eye exam."  This goes on for months.  Then we buy our business.  Then I say it some more.  Sigh....

Finally I make the appointment and go in.  This is the result.

Glasses once more, with a progressive lens.  They were relatively easy to adjust too.  I am now officially old.

This is my epic pose...do I look noble?

This is me laughing after the "epic" pose!

Here you can see all my fine lines...and the cute sides of my "Sophia Loren" frames.

Now I am seeing well, and it is scary.  I liked looking at myself with my own 'soft filter' of bad eyesight!

So now confession time to make me feel better...how many of you have a bifocal?

Kyle Gets Glasses

Okay, all the other kids inherited Tim's great eyesight.  This one, is all mine!

He is so cute in his glasses.  He has inherited my astigmatism.

He is looking more and more like his daddy everyday.  I love them both.

ps. Daddy's eyewear is for reading purposes only.  It still annoys him.
