New Pottery, an Earthquake, and Sweet Babies

We have a tourist town about 30 minutes from our home that has a lot of great shoppes.  There is also a "village" of shoppes that has everything from Amish Buggy rides to a Tin Shop, a fudge shop and a jam and jelly kitchen.  Double yum!  Tucked in beside the fudge shop is an open air shop that sells pottery.  It has become a favorite of ours.

It is hard to read the colors, my camera is not great, but this one is a deep green blue.

This one is smaller than the first one.  A great size for the kids or adults who don't want to drink half the coffee pot in one sitting!

Tim picked this one.  His reason?  "I can dribble coffee down the side and who will know?"  Real reason?  He likes usual patterns.

This one is so pretty - the blue is amazing in person.

This one has much more muted colors and more of a mat finish than the others.  This is a favorite mug of one of our regular guests!

The potter's name is Garnett.

Do you have any special pottery you collect?  We use ours everyday.  Yesterday we had my parents, my son, and our friend Denny here for dinner. These mugs got a work out with coffee and cold drinks, too.

Oh, and we had an earthquake yesterday.  Having grown up in Southern California, I am used to it, but it is so unusual here on the East Coast.  My family in California have been laughing at the media response to the earthquake here.  My mom and I went shopping afterward.  We bought yarn for a few projects for some sweet babies that are going to be born in the next several months.  Two of my nieces are having babies!  Both boys.  I found really cute yarn for some wee boy hats, oh, and a big brother knit hat as well.  Even though they all live in California, one baby boy Camden is coming in October and the other is due in December so they will need nice knit hats for their wee heads!

I will show you those projects soon!  I need to run, I have to take a daughter to work soon, and then this afternoon my younger girls are going to a tye dye party!  They are only a little bit excited!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. Let them laugh.....they wouldn't know what to do with a mosquito invasion! lol They are used to earthquakes....most of us here are not. That is why we choose to live here.....but it didn't work. We still had an earthquake.

I, too, love that pottery. One of these days I might change out to some of his...but for now I'll keep our more run of the mill mugs.

  2. Oh, yes...I DO like pottery. Some day I shall have to post some of it. I tend to favor the color blue, but I have quite a few browns, too.

I still drink my coffee out of a ceramic mug, but my husband uses a pottery one. Do you happen to know if you can put them in the microwave to heat up????

  3. We used to have a couple of mugs similar to yours made by a local potter-they are so pretty! Ours were used daily, too, which unfortunately led to their demise. Oh, well, that just allows us to buy another special one when we find it, right?

  4. I was thinking the same thing as Becky, when it's something you're not used to and the area you live hasn't had one in hundreds of years then it becomes a big deal! LOL.

I LOVE your new pottery, so, so *pretty*. :o)

  5. Hi, I am Gen, just dropping by to introduce myself. Coming your way via LACE at Lily-Rose Cottage. Love the pottery and love those special shops you are talking about in PA. Formerly from Central New York we used to pay a visits to the Lancaster area often. We did read in the paper this morning that on the East Coast there was "a whole lot of shakin' goin' on."

  8. I love your new pottery mugs!
The colours are wonderful, particularly the blue tones!
I think mugs like that are so tactile - I often find myself simply stroking one as I dreamily sip my tea from it, lol!
The area you bought yours from sounds really interesting and delightful.
And I'm sure your knitting projects will be lovely for the new babes!
I'm so glad your earthquake was not serious.
We've had one to my knowledge in the past 30 years here in our country town.
That's quite enough for my liking :-(
Thanks for linking up today, my friend.
    blessings to you and yours..Trish

  9. Yes, Deanna - we had the earthquake here, too - my first! But, hurricane Irene heading right for us in South Jersey is NOT my first and I would so like it to be not at all! Been through Gloria in Connecticut and was ground zero in Charleston, SC for Hugo some twenty years ago. That was quite enough, thank you! Praying it goes out to sea . . . The Lord be my protector . . .
    Joy!

  12. I don't know how I missed this post. My breath actually caught when I saw that first photo... I love hand thrown pottery! And yours is wonderful. I love the green and the blue especially.

Have fun with your knitting. I'm still working on my baby love blanket, but you know how big projects are... You have to have some small ones going at the same time for instant gratification! So, yesterday I cast on a wool/mohair blend in creamy white for a hat for my niece. I'm beginning to think 'Christmas stash'. Fun!

    Blessings, Debbie

  13. The pottery is beautiful. I don't use any pottery, but I have a bit of a collection of Williamsburg type pottery packed away somewhere. We just don't have enough room in our cupboards for everything.
