My Faux Mantel

I don't have a fireplace.

In my dreams I have a scaled down version of the fireplaces at Cracker Barrel!  I love the hearth the big open firebox and all the stone!  Dreamy!

But back to reality.  I wanted a place to use a garland with lights and add a bit more sparkle to the living room, so I decided I'd use the top shelf of my bookcase.

Sometimes, you just have to think outside the box.

I like it a lot.

Emma, Vinnie, and Isla are driving to Pennsylvania today.  I'd appreciate prayer for their safety while traveling.  They'll be here for a week, then go to Vinnie's family for New Years.

I have a few gift cards to pick up still but otherwise I'm done with shopping and wrapping.  I enjoy it so much!  I love giving gifts to family and friends!

Now I can focus on the food for Christmas day.  We don't do a formal meal, I cook a head and we set up the food buffet style so everyone can eat when they want to.  We have ham, veggies, desserts.  Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, egg nog, sodas.

Tim's brother and sister in law, and his niece are home from West Africa and we will probably see them on Christmas Eve.  We'll all be going out to celebrate Tim's birthday!

How are you doing on your Christmas preparations?

  1. When we lived at The Farmhouse, I decorated the top of a tall cabinet in the living room and we called it our "fantel." I loved it! No need to do without a mantel just because you don't have one! I like your out-of-the-box thinking!

I know you're excited about your special guests! I will pray for safe travels for them. Merry, merry Christmas to all of you!

  2. We have a fireplace but no mantel! I do much the same as you!
What an exciting Christmas Week for you. We are just back from the ranch and I’m going out today for Christmas Eve Dinner groceries and Texas Trash ingredients. Christmas will be here before I can turn around twice!

  3. Wonder of wonders, I’m all signed in and ready to comment!

Yes, will be praying for the travelers. Exciting!

I do a similar thing with my china cabinet all year round. Your bookshelf
makes a great “fantle” as Cheryl says. Looks beautiful and festive.

If I get near a store, I start chucking things in like a fool. For that reason, I am
staying away from stores. 😳 I think I’m finished except when I am near
    merchandise.

My attention has to turn to baking and even cleaning.

    Merry on, Deanna!

  4. Really nice, Deanna!
I'm with you in loving the Cracker Barrel fireplace!
All is calm; all is bright here. Thankful for a very simple Christmas this year. ♥
My father (and a brother with him) traveled to KS via train - left yesterday; return Thursday. I'll be driving to Chicago to pick them up on Thursday. So I have a little "down" time in which to read books, relax, etc. A friend from church died unexpectedly on Sunday. His memorial service is Friday and I'll be helping serve the lunch, etc. It's an unusual season here. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  5. Adult children and grandchildren's gifts have all been mailed. I think I'm done with all the shopping for the children still at home. Still need to finish up a few friends and thank you gifts, but I don't feel quite as behind as I often do this time of year.
