When we bought our home there was nothing but over grown dwarf Alberta Spruce. Now picket fencing, no arch, no lamppost, now spirea, no hydrangea, no peonies, no purple coneflowers (echinacea) and no black eyed susans. No roses. Nothing but hard, compacted soil...no red sunset maple trees, or Cleveland pear tree.
No mums, no daisy's, no feverfew...
It has been a joy to build this garden. I love it. We cut flowers all summer, and into the fall. My children have learned to weed, plant, water, watch the plants grow. They love to bring me flowers from the garden.
When we moved here, I mourned the loss of my porch at my old house. When we bought that house it had wrought iron posts holding up the porch roof. By the time we sold that house, it had white wooden posts and railings. It was darling. The kids and I sat out there daily.
Finally, I came to accept that I had no porch and I set about making a cottage garden out front. It really suits the house. People love to walk up the front door through this garden.
Now, I am going to have a front porch again!
The design that our contractor came up with incorporates a front porch. I can hardly believe it! It is going to be so fun to sit out there and enjoy my beautiful trees and watch the kids ride bikes...
My garden is going to go away. I don't know just how I will have a garden in front of the porch, or if I will move all these treasures to the other section of the front of the house. Where will I use the picket fence? There are many things to decide.
I love this kind of thing. But I am going to miss my special garden, but I have learned in my many years of marriage to make a home where ever we live, and to go along with the changes that come over time. Our home is going to be better than ever and will really suit the needs that our family has or is going to have in the years to come.

You write about two things dear to me: a front porch and a garden in front. I hope your dreams and plans can include both and I think you will have a lovely place to sit and ponder.
I love a front porch, and I know that you are going to have loving one once again. You can always make a flower garden leading right up to the porch. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be lovely.
A front porch will be so awesome! I know you will find a place for the beautiful flowers and will have the best of both worlds.

A front porch is a lovely thing. I remember your cute porch on your old house.
I can see how you'd be sad to say goodbye to your beautiful garden out front. But i'm sure some of those plants would look beautiful in pots on the porch. And I know you'll find a way to make it beautiful.
I tried to send you another message on facebook, but the messaging wasn't working. Monday evening would work for us if you wanted to drive here also. We could host you for dinner just as easily then. ( I wasn't sure what day you were traveling.)
I love porches and decks and things like that too...I am sure you will come up with something for your garden...you have a creative mind and good taste..your pictures are beautiful...I thing change is good...and as a former Air Force wife, we traveled 23 years with them...creating a "home" wherever we went..I think it is a challenge but a fun one...
Oh my goodness! Your garden is amazing. I am awestruck by people that can do that. It is definitely NOT a gift I have. But I am with you on the porch. We sit on ours daily and love it. I am so glad you are getting one too! Lisa~
Sitting on my front porch swing on a warm day is my favorite place to be...on earth! Enjoy!
I'm sure you're going to love having that front porch. It will be fun to see where you move these beautiful flowers. I hope you get to save the tree :-)
Blessings,
Marcia
I do love porches too, I have a nice small front porch, and flower beds on each side, I have a huge back covered porch with attached carport, I love it out there, I have flowers all over my back yard too, way to many gardens for dear hubby to keep up now. We will put the garden in one of them soon, the winter garden. Loved your post very interesting dear. Lots of hugs Barbara
Yay for the porch! I love front porches and I love it when there's room for a lovely little cottage style garden in front of them. I hope you'll be able to relocate all your plants and trees.
