Home Keeping - New Curtains

It's amazing how a simple change can make a huge difference in the look and feel of your home.

I wanted to make a change the living room curtains and started my search a year or so ago.  I had two basic guidelines.

1. I must really love them.

2. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on curtains.  I need four curtain panels for my front windows, so a $25 panel suddenly becomes $100 for curtains.  Didn't want to go there.

So, I've been looking.  And looking.  Then one day when I wasn't really looking, I found them.

I didn't have a set idea of what I wanted - I had burgundy velvet curtains in the living room for about about 10 years.  I loved them, but they were getting faded and it was time for change.

Manuela, who blogs at A Cultivated Nest, and I have been reading each others' blogs for years and while we don't have the exact same style, we use the same basic colors - yellow, red, black and white.  She showed some curtains, that she made for her dining room, out of black and white buffalo check tablecloths that she bought at TJ Maxx.  They looked great and I started to think about the buffalo check.  I checked my local TJ Maxx and they had none.  Okay, back to the drawing board.

So I kind of put the whole curtain thing on the back burner of priorities.  Early in October I was at the Christmas Tree Shops for shampoo and conditioner.  I always take a walk through the whole store to see what they have.  As I got back to the housewares I looked at the wall where they have the curtains, and what do I see?  Black and white buffalo check.  Hmmm…They also had red and white.  Hmmm, again.  I like the black and white.  The red would look great in my bathroom.  I look at the curtains to see if they have the size I need and they do.  I look at the price and cannot believe my eyes.  $7.99.  Unbelievable!  I snatched them up!

Here is Manuela's photo which was my inspiration.

Here are my photos of my curtains in my living room.

I love them.

They are perfect in our living room and I think they really have opened up the room visually.

What do you think?

Have been wandering about in the archives...achoo! Have loved digging about. Have a few questions, but will ask in email once I figure out what I'm asking. Back to poking about.

They look wonderful. Very modern, but not hard-edged, if you know what I mean.
And the price - can't beat that!

Those are beautiful, what a find!

Isn't it funny how two people can use the same pattern even though their styles are a little different?
