Views from Williamsburg

We had never been to Williamsburg before, but we loved it! For history lovers like we are it was amazing to be able to experience in a small way, what life was like in 18th century Virginia.

I made dress for the girls and I, not period authentic at all but of the "costume" variety. We were complemented all day on them and many people stopped us during the day to ask us directions or information etc...I guess they thought we worked there! It was fun to shop at John Greenhow's and Mary Dickenson's, stroll through the palace gardens, watch a gun holster being made at the Saddlery, we were privy to a meeting with General Washington's staff, toured the Getty foundry. My dad and I also, were able to tour the Capitol. It is amazing to see where the giants of American History walked and talked and studied and argued for right. It was amazing to hear a general state that he "entered this fight, at his own expense, because I believed it was right". He wanted nor expected to be monetarily compensated. It was about honor.

Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Patrick Henry, were just some of the men who were Virginians and strong leaders of our new country.

I can't wait to go back!

I'm green with envy, but oh so glad you were able to visit Williamsburg and Jamestown. I've been there 2x in 4 years. We love the area, so rich in history. We last visited in November of 2006 and look forward to a return visit in a couple years.

Your dresses are lovely and how fun that you were stopped with questions. :o)

We didn't purchase the pass to get in to *all* the exhibits. We were happy to just be there, visit a couple shops and walk the cobblestone streets. The church is magnificent and the docent was so helpful. I also loved the church yard cemetery - again, the history. The architecture and gardens are breathtaking.

Each visit we ended our day by enjoying a simple picnic of cheese, bread and fruit - and bottled water, on a lawn near the bookstore.

Thank you for signing up for the drawing. ;o)

Blessings...

I can't wait to go back again and again! There is so much we didn't get to see and explore.

Looks like a great place to visit. How many days do you think a person would need to explore it all?

Probably 3 days would do it. There are so many interesting things to see, are you thinking of a trip, Miss Paula?

Cool pictures! We were there too during homeschool week! :) I love the dresses -- we had my daughter in a little dress, but the rest of us were just in our regular old boring 21st century attire. But we have big plans for next time!!!

I wrote about our adventure here: http://www.littleblueschool.com

Oh, I can't wait until we take a family vacation there!

We want to wait until the children are old enough to appreciate the history.

Information Friday

We had a wonderful wedding weekend in Missouri! We drove, leaving Friday morning and came back on Monday! It was long, but it was worth it...
