Convention

My girl and I are spending two days together.  Alone.  Well, not really ALONE, since we are at our state homeschool convention with thousands of people!

The way it worked out this year, she and I were the only ones available to go, so we are here enjoying time together and buying materials for next year.

So far we have purchased our math, a neat writing program, some character materials, art supplies, books to read, great audio dramas from Lamplighter and Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre.  Right now we are relaxing in our hotel room, and listening to Lamplighter's The Hedge of Thorns.

In a little while Emily and Tim will join us to attend the graduation of two young men we are so proud of.  Their families are a part of our church fellowship and we are excited that they are a part of the graduation here at our convention.  One of them is giving the graduation speech and one of them is playing violin!  We are happy to be a part of celebrating what they and their parents have accomplished!

Tomorrow is the last day of the convention.  We look forward to it every year and are so thankful for the CHAP board for all their hard work to provide this opportunity for us to hear encouraging speakers - I have enjoyed Rick and Marilyn Boyer today - and to be able to look at the materials/curriculum that are available.

We also met Colin Gunn today.  He is the producer of IndoctriNation. We had an interesting conversation about the movie, and our children.

I am enjoying my time with my Rachel.  She is growing up to be a lovely young woman.  Almost 13....such precious time together!
I'm thankful!

  3. It sounds like a homeschool mom's dream...to have all that stuff under one roof, and great speakers to encourage! It's been a long time since I have been to a convention...

I think it's so special that you're getting to spend time with Rachel one-on-one. I'll bet she's having great fun!

So the school year's over, and the convention is (almost) over. Now the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer can begin! (Somehow it never works out quite that way, does it? :-)

  7. Clicking to read about that documentary. I think I've heard of it, but I'm not sure. Isn't it wonderful the way the homeschooling movement has flourished? That's just such a God thing! IMO, it's one of our greatest hopes as a nation.
