Changes

Lots of changes going on in my life.

Some are personal changes, the kind that happen when a woman is almost 50.  That sounds weird to say, but the truth of it is that I am 6 months away from being 50.  I've already told my family I expect a big party - a nice one, not one of these "Over the hill" type.  I come from longevity and I'm going on the idea that I am only half way through life!

Other changes involve family.  My parents have found a buyer for their house and will be adding inlaw quarters here.   We've never wanted them to feel like they were going to be living in our space and giving up their own home.  So they have had a nice (big) plan drawn up that allows them basically to add a small house on to ours!  Oh, and we don't have a garage and that's a must for them so there will be a garage too.

Creekside Cottage will be getting quite a bit larger!

The wonderful thing is that their house was completely paid for, and they sold it to a young couple getting married in June.  My parents have known the young man since he was a teenager.  They love the house and my parents, who have loved their house too, are happy to know that this young couple will get to enjoy living there.

I'll be blogging the build and the adjustments we'll all have, so stay tuned.

One more change is the growth our church has seen in the last few months.  We are bursting at the seams!  Good problem to have, but one that requires creative thinkingThe days we have a fellowship meal? So crowded that we had to buy more tables and chairs!  And where to provide a private, quiet space for the mothers of the four babies on the way to nurse those wee babes?

These are all things that require some thought and care but nothing that is too daunting.  Our God is good and will provide everything we need in all things.

  1. Hmm, I didn't realize you and I are so close in age-I turn 50 in ~4 months!

Although it's challenging, it's a great problem to have @ church. You guys have a wonderful fellowship, and I'm not surprised you're starting to feel pinched. If I lived closer, I'd love to be a part of your church, too!

Can't wait to see the changes that come on the home front. I know you've had it in the works a long time so it must be exciting to start seeing the plans you've made start coming to fruition. It's a great solution as parents age but are still independent and will likely continue to be a great solution if they reach a point where it's difficult to remain independent.

  3. Oh, you have such exciting changes on the horizon! Isn't it great hitting "middle age" with young(ish) children in tow?

It will be such fun to follow the building of the house, extending of the home, blending of the generations as we read your blog!

  5. How exciting! And what a wonderful testimony to a world that seems to have no room for the elders in their lives. Now the blessings will abound! Honor your mother and father as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

    Blessings, Debbie

I had a birth day and turned thirty-five! Feels so wonderful and I only look forward to how wonderful it will be at 40!

  9. How enriching it will be for your family to have your parents living so close! What a privilege. How the build goes well --maybe it won't affect your own house that much. And what a wonderful problem for your church! Hope you have a great week.

  10. I absolutely love what you're doing with your parents. Since you're from Amish country and I'm not, you probably know the name for the little attachment the Amish build.

I believe that is the way to go and would do it here if that's where it leads for Mom.

And do not worry a bit about 50. Now, 51? That remains to be seen.
