So Is The Starbucks Red Cup Controversy Really A Thing?

I admit I've been busy, and haven't paid attention to everything on social media, but I keep reading bits and pieces about a boycott of Starbucks because of their red holiday cup?

Really?

I guess that it doesn't have any Christmas symbols on it or something?  I don't know but it sure seems like if you were going to boycott this company there are plenty of other reasons to do so, rather than their red cup.

I didn't boycott Target because they wouldn't let the Salvation Army put a bell ringer outside their stores.  I've been a business owner and I understood their reasoning that if you let one group do it then every other groups wants to do it.

I think we get out panties in a bunch over silly things, all too often.

I'd rather spend my energy for things that have eternal value - like trying to stop abortion, or helping support adoptions, mentoring and encouraging others, Operation Christmas Child, that kind of thing.

Am I missing an important factor in this whole red cup controversy?  What do you think about it?

  1. I totally agree with you!!! As a Christian I am not offended! What is the problem?
Louis Dean has a problem about Target and the whole SA thing so we have not shopped there much during our 10 year marriage. That has changed now that I have been introduced to what a great store it is! I am hoping Christians are not joining the crowd who wake up in the morning and throw their arms out to greet the day by asking, "America, what are we going to be offended by TODAY??"

  2. Oh my goodness...what a fuss over a cup of coffee. As with all things in life...especially with people...forget the packaging...its whats inside that matters.

  3. I don't know any Christians who are offended by the Starbucks cup. It makes me wonder if it's a fabrication of the media to make Christians look ridiculous..........

  4. I have just been hearing about some of these things this morning to include the policy again this year that "Merry Christmas" is forbidden and will not be allowed to be said. That is what gets my knickers in a knot, and, since I am not a fan of their coffee, it is no sorrow for me to avoid them. as for the cup? Bright and colorful.

  5. I agree with you too. I don't understand the fuss. Like Phoebe said, it's the inside that counts. Unless the outside is terribly offensive, we need to focus on what's really important in life.

  6. I decided a long time ago that if I only did business with those who share my faith or think just like I do, then I would be living in a very small sphere. We are in this world, but not of this world. Therefore, because I do like Starbucks coffee, I will continue to buy an occasional treat and I will try to be the light of Jesus wherever i go in this dark world.

Could it be that we are less of a light by being harsh and "offended"? Jesus had the harshest words to say to the "religious" people; he drank and ate with sinners.

  7. Starbucks has had wintry/Christmasy designs in the past and this year they decided to have plain red - still festive. I think people are looking to make mountains out of mole hills.

  8. I believe the media is making more of this than the supposed protesters are, if there really are any. When I see a red cup at this time of year it looks like Christmas anyway. A big sigh here, and Cheryl said it well.
