Garden: Lilacs

Right next to our kitchen door is a lilac bush.  I've had a love/hate relationship with it for years.  After years of not producing flowers I had Tim cut it down, and he was going to take it out but didn't get to it.  It started to grow again and at least it looked nice in the space, so I left it.  Then it began to bloom every year!

With our long winter, we're about three weeks behind where we normally are with trees and flowering shrubs.

I'm thankful for that spring is here and even though we are having April 'showers' today, the promise of the flowers in May is worth it!

I'm looking forward to the scent of lilacs filling the air, and that scent drifting into the house.

  1. Ah yes...lilacs! They bring back such sweet memories as we had a huge one in the yard when I was growing up and the smell was amazing. Mom always had a vase of them on the kitchen table when they were in bloom! We don't see them much here in the south.

  3. I guess cutting it back was a good thing! That’s happened here before with my honeysuckle bushes! The one by the driveway was a gift from God. I didn’t plant it so it must have been a bird who dropped the seed. The first year I got exactly ONE bloom. I picked it and pressed it into my Country Diary for that year. Then it didn’t bloom for two years at all. I cut it back so much I was sure I killed it but now it’s blooming profusely!
Real flowers make the best fragrance! I’m glad you have your lilacs!

  4. Lilacs - my favorite spring flower. I can smell them now! I can't wait for them to start blooming but I'm afraid it's going to be awhile before they do around here - I'm just going to have to be patient!

else know such precise about my trouble. You're wonderful!

    Thanks!
