Sewing

www.allposters.com

Emily and I started a sewing project yesterday. I have had a pattern for a long split riding skirt, for years now. Emily bought fabric to make one last year, but we never got around to making it.

One of my goals for the girls to prepare them for life is to have them able to do basic sewing. Emily wanted to have a home ec day yesterday, as well as doing her math, so we started this project. These are the kinds of projects that we have to do in bits and pieces, as we have time. One thing she hates to do is to pin the pattern on the fabric and cut it out. Seems simple enough but I remember the first few times I did it - it is intimidating! What if you do it wrong? It will be ruined!

Well, I helped her pin and she did great with it all. We realized that we need a zipper so we will stop today and purchase one on our way home from co-op.

Tomorrow they are calling for a nor'easter...snow to start in the afternoon and on into Saturday, where wind will be added into the mix. Crazy. I don't think we will be going anywhere, except poor Tim who has to work this weekend!

I forsee lots of sewing for the next few days!

Intimidating not so much, but it is SO annoying! I mean I kept pinning the tablecloth at the same time! If only there was already a doted line on the fabric, it would make it WAAAY easier.
