Assateague

We had a lovely long day yesterday, taking a trip to Assateague Island.

The winds were about 25 miles an hour with stronger gusts.  It was an inexpensive way to have microderm abrasion done!  Talk about exfolliating.

On the bay side of the island it was much calmer and that is where we found the ponies.

A bonus to our day is that there were tons of shells along the shore.  We have been studying marine life this year and are in the middle of a chapter on Mollusks.  Love God's timing on this

Kyle could hardly contain himself and his pockets could not contain all his treasure.  "Mom!  Look at this bivalve!  Oh, here's a Mussel!  Mom, look at this!"  You get the idea!  We even found some shells with barnacles on them.  Very cool.  That was an unexpected blessing of this trip.  Don't know why it hadn't occurred to me that we could collect shells on an island....my brain must be tired.
Rachel found an awesome Jellyfish on the shore, too.

Because it is April and it was so windy, we pretty much exhausted everything to do on Assateague by 2:30pm and so we decided to see how far it would be to Cheryl's home.  Ah, not too far!  I called, and they were home and graciously said "Come," even though I warned her we were wind blown and sandy.

That was an unexpected blessing, too.  A few sweet hours with friends of the heart.  She wrote about it here.

Today we are back in our normal mode of school and the home.  Although I will confess it has taken a while to get moving.

I love my life...even though it means I am often tired.  I know how blessed I am.

And I am thankful.

How about you?  Want to share any happiness you've had lately?

  1. Look at Kyle's windblown cheeks. You probably were all glowing by the time you arrived at Cheryl's. I did read that post! Wonderful day on the island, beautiful wild ponies, a built-in science lesson, tea with friends...does it get any better? I think not!

  2. It was windy yesterday! Brian works only minutes from where you were (Berlin, Ocean City, etc.). He works outside and by the end of the day, he said he was so tired and had reached his limit of being blown around!

Our happy life includes a 70 degree day tomorrow and the chance to stay home ALL DAY! I love days with no where to go.

  3. So glad to have been included in a part of your adventure! Any time! I don't think we'll run out of things to talk about. We're friends of the heart...sisters in the Lord!

I just loved that line. I think I would like to print it out and frame it. You are so right.

It all sounds wonderful, and the forever a teacher in my heart part of Debbie just loves that God brought the hands on lesson to the field trip with no pre planning on your part at all. As always, He is the perfect teacher.

  6. A wonderful day complete with a visit with a good friend. All the years I home schooled I was very aware of the way God coordinated our lesson plans with little things like you describe here. It is always good to take note and give thanks! I also loved your story about your meal with friends -- such an encouragement. They probably understood the big family thing. :-)

  7. Oh how neat! When I was young, I used to read books about that island that was all about horses...I LOVED those books.

Sounds like a fun day. :)
