Garden: Early August - Hydrangea, Zinnias, and Black Eyed Susans

The workhorse of my garden this month are the Zinnias that I scattered seeds for this past May.  I got the seeds at a bridal shower with the words on the package "watch our love grow!"  I trust their love has grown as well as these lovely flowers!

The colors are bright and cheerful and are making the front cottage garden cheerful!

In the flower beds along the master bedroom, my hydrangea are doing very well.

I planted this pink last year and it is making me very happy.  So is this Limelight I bought this year!

Isn't it pretty?

The Annabelle's have done well this year too!

One other bright spot is the Black Eyed Susans!  Very sweet flowers.
The garden reminds me that the year is moving on quickly.  Next month the Mums will be out and many of these flowers will be finished.

How are your gardens growing?  Did you plant anything new this year?  The Zinnias are new for me, I've never grown them before.  I also am moving more toward the 'romantic flowers' - roses, hydrangea, peonies, hollyhocks....

  2. What a sweet idea to give the zinnia seeds at the shower. I'm sure it makes you smile to see the beautiful blooms. We've gotten a little rain so another gerber daisy has appeared. but so much else has dried up, even with patient watering. Fall is coming.

  4. I love zinnias! As you said, they are so cheerful! We planted some seeds in a bed here at the new house, but only ONE came up. At The Farmhouse, zinnias grew like gangbusters. We'll try again next year.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful flowers in your garden!

  7. I like the idea of seeds given at gatherings and when our oldest daughter got married they gave away blue spruce seedlings at the wedding reception.

  8. All your flowers are so pretty! Love zinnias don't know why I haven't planted any, maybe next year.

  9. Your flowers are lovely! I received a couple of packets of flower seeds (I can't remember the type of flowers), but unfortunately they didn't do so well under my (neglectful) care!

  11. Hydrangeas and peonies are my favorite flowers. I don't have any peonies in my yard, but I do have a beautiful hydrangea. Your pink hydrangea is gorgeous.

Zinnias were my grandmother's favorite flower. She had a huge flower garden, and zinnias comprised a large portion of it. We used to clip a variety of colors and head to the cemetery to beautify her parents' graves. They are such a cute, perky flower.

    Blessings,
    Patti

  12. Deanna...you should be so proud! The garden looks beautiful! Mine, on the other hand....is struggling a bit under this triple digit heat! We expect it every summer however! You have such happy, vibrant colors! Love it!
