Book Review: A Song Unheard

Image result for a song unheard

Roseanna M. White has quickly become one of my favorite authors in the Christian fiction genre.  She writes strong characters, especially women, and she writes with depth.  Her books are not heavy or dark, but they do deal with real issues, and every character doesn't have a come to Jesus moment and everyone lives happily ever after.

In her Shadows over England series, Roseanna White has us following a "family" of thieves in London, England before the first World War.  A shadowy man, who might/must work for the government contacts them to do jobs for him that require a theft of some sort.  You can read my review of the first book in this series, A Name Unknown, by clicking on the title.

In this book Willa Forsythe is asked to find a cypher key, used to decode messages, and bring it to Mr. V, their contact.  It is thought to be in the possession of the son of the man who 'built' the key.  Lukas De Wilde is a renowned violinist, and a refugee from Belgium.  The Germans have taken Belgium, and destroyed the De Wilde home, while he was playing in an orchestra in Paris.  His trip into Belgium to retrieve his mother and sister, leave him with a wound, and unable to find them.  His mother and sister fled their home and headed to the capitol, knowing he'd come for them, and in the meantime they have taken refuge with an older woman and they've all created the cover story that they are the daughter in law and granddaughter of this woman.  It is a ruse they must keep up, since a German officer has taken up residence with them.

Willa is sent to Wales where two wealthy sisters are funding an orchestra of Belgian musicans to tour and raise money for supplies for the Belgian people and for the refugees flooding England.  How will she get close enough to the famous violinist, in order to find the key?  Will Willa and Lukas find love?  Can Willa allow God to heal her wounded heart, after being abandoned by her parents at a young age?  How will Lukas' mother and sister escape an increasingly dangerous situation?

I can't wait for the third book in this series, An Hour Unspent, when it releases.

Disclaimer - I was given the book by Bethany House to review, but all opinions are my own, and always will be!
