I just love the name that Aussie's call chickens - Chooks.
This wee gal is one of seven Black Australorps we ordered. We also ordered on Silver Laced Wyandotte but she did not make it sadly.
Kyle wanted to name one of them Larry Boy - but we informed him that they are hens and not roosters. I guess he just likes those super suction ears!
No names yet.
The day before the chicks arrived our neighbor gave us his Rhode Island Red hens (2 of them) and our rooster Cash is lonely no longer. Can I just tell you what a hilarious sight it is to watch a rooster run? Oh man, it makes me laugh every time. He is a happy camper. The hens seem to be tolerating him. Lindsay is wanting to breed them, so she is hoping one of them will get broody.
There is never a dull moment around here.
I guess that is what happens when you encourage your children to be life long learners....
Isn't she cute?
They are getting their wee feathers on their wings. They are about 4 days old. It will be fun to watch them grow!

Cute chooks. We have a friend from New Zealand who always used to say "silly chook" when I or another friend acted up as an endearment. This post made me think of her.
How lovely are your little chooks, makes me miss ours, we changed our chook run into an aviary, we don't get to eat the lovely fresh eggs anymore but we don't have such a messy muddy yard either.
I think any chook running is a funny sight. They always make me chuckle too. thanks for sharing.
Blessings to you
Nell
It is fun to watch chickens. They do the cutest and funniest things. Sounds like the rooster is happy now that he has hen company.
You just have to be willing to love them through the awkward "juvenile" stage too. lol
They are adorable. I'm glad you are having fun with them.
Adorable! (My girls are going to be so jealous. They have talked about raising chickens, but are waiting for Ron to build a shelter...)
Recently visited my nieces on their farm and met their chicks--well they are big girls now and producing beautiful eggs each morning. Each girl seems to have one for her pet, and yes, names. And they each have a personality.
I hope you have a great time in Scotland!
They are darling! Sorry about the loss of the wyandotte. That's the sad part of 'farm' life. What a great learning experience the breeding of these chickens will be. I've said before that I wished that I had learned about 4H earlier since this city mama knew nothing about animals. We've learned so much these past few years and my heart is so happy. Oh well.. better late than never. :)
And the sweeties in my post this morning are my 'baby' brother's children... my nephew and niece.

Darling. Really. Very. So what if a girl is named Larry Boy? =D I'm sure she won't care.
My niece has six new chicks...probably more like tweens now. Anyway, she left them caged in the basement for a few days while she went on vacation. When she returned, she found they had turned into free range garage chickens and had grown a lot in five days. ☺
Happy rooster, happy hens, hope it all works out.
Love them! They are pretty chooks!
{Hey, I changed my name on instagram and didn't know how to do it so I started over...it is gracefulhomestead now.}
If you could see me smiling, I love to read of how children and yes, us adults find chickens so amazing. I have had chickens for many years and they never cease to amaze me, and like you I find the roosters so funny when they run, especially when they find a bug and call the ladies over.
Your children are really going to have lots of fun, keep us posted.
Enjoy.
Blessings,
Sue
SO cute! I've always wanted to have chickens.
Sorry about the wee one that didn't make it. :(
Can't wait to read more about your chicken adventures.
They are so cute!
