Tea Time Tuesday: My China Hutch

Some of you are new to my blog so I thought I would show you how my china hutch used to look before I painted it.

It belonged to my great grandmother, and was given to me after she died.  It got some water damage before I took possession of it and I always tried to hide the peeling veneer with some sort of draped material.

Finally, one day I got brave enough to paint it.  I am so glad that I did!

I painted it white and did a light green interior, which was pretty, but after a few years, the green paint started peeling.  By then I had heard about chalk paint and decided to give the interior an update!

I went with Annie Sloan's Emperor's Silk.  What a difference that made!  I love it!

The outside is just latex paint but one day I may repaint it in chalk paint.  For now it's looking fine.

Dear Deanna:
This so so darling. It kind of brings back memories for me as I had a similar one in my bedroom as a teenager. Yours is so cute and I love it more Shabby Chic than the dark. So glad you shared and linked!

It's precious at so many levels, Deanna. First because it once belonged to your great grandmother. (Do you remember her?) And now because it serves you well and looks so beautiful!

So similar to mine! But mine is not painted. At antique shops I see a lot of them painted white.

This is you - the red accent works. And the blue and white curtains set off the china, too. Fabulous.

Yesterday I was in Strasburg and bought a hand-painted creamer in anticipation of the small daffodils that are soon to bloom. I'm guessing it will be just the right size for them. Next to it I spied a beautiful cup and saucer (Spode) and thought of you.

Deanna, we have a little china cabinet almost just like yours! It belonged to my husband's grandmother. He gave me permission to paint ours too but I haven't done it yet. Yours looks so pretty with the china tea cups. :)

Thanks for sharing with us at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.

That is just amazing. I have a "new to me" china cabinet that I just love - but I want it to be white also. I'm hoping I'm brave enough this summer to paint it. You might just be the inspiration that I need. Your photos are great and the china cabinet looks wonderful.

HI Deanna,
I just love the transformation of your china cabinet. I have one that is similar but hubby won't let me paint it. I bought pink chalk paint to do it but I guess I will just have to swoon over yours! I am peeking inside to see all of your pretties! So lovely! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Karen
