Attention Jane Austen Fans

For those of you who love Jane Austen, I thought I would share a website that I love to spend time looking around on. There are so many interesting discussions taking place, links to Regency Period group and activities, books etc...
In the fall I will be teaching a Jane Austen class for 20 weeks. We will read and discuss "Pride and Prejudice" as well as learn to do handwork, sketch, and drink tea. We will also learn to dance some of the English Country Dances. We are going to have so much fun!
This website has be so helpful to me in planning for my class.
And just for the record, my favorite movie version is the one starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. The most recent movie starring Keira Knightly was ok, but I thought it was modernized way too much. I simply cannot see Elizabeth saying to Fitzwilliam Darcy that he could call her "goddess divine!"
I hope you enjoy the website!

  1. The new Pride and Prejudice was not my favorite at all. If you didn't know about Kittie, you really wouldn't of understood her in the new version. There is nothing like Colin Firth playing Darcy. The new guy, No way Jose Conseco!!!

Anyone taking Mrs. Rabes class is in for a treat and a blue ribbon. Because I say anyone who reads and finishes the book deserves a "Blue Ribbon"!!!!

Another favorite is Sense and Sensibilty!! What fun!!!

  2. I'm an Austen fan also! Your class sounds like immense fun!

Did you know that the UK release of the newer P&P didn't have the ridiculous "goddess divine" scene in it? It's a sad state of affairs, to me, that they 'dumbed it down' for us Americans. Ugh!

I used to not care for _Persuasion-, but as I've gotten another decade behind me, I find it more stirring.

    Have a nice day!

  3. I have recently read some of the sequels of Pride and Prejudice. My favorite is written in 3 books, called "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman." by Pamela Aiden. They were written to tell Mr. Darcy's side of the story. They were well written and interesting.
