Last Day

We took the kids to breakfast this morning to celebrate our last day of school.  I didn't take any photos.  So when we got home, and I got ready to head out to get some groceries, I said to Tim, "Will you get some 'last day of school' photos of the kids?  Just line 'em up and take a few."

He took me literally.

These were taken in our 'literary cafe' in the basement on his iPhone 4, so not the best quality but cute.

Actually these turned out really cute.

Day 180.

We started on August 5th, Kyle in 4th grade, Sarah in 7th, and Rachel in 10th, oh, and Kamryn in Preschool level work at age 4.

We took few days off; three days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and few other random days.  A benefit of home education is that you can take it with you anywhere, you don't need to worry about snow days, or teacher in service days, or parent/teacher conferences.  Vacations, depending on what you're  doing, can be field trips, like our week in Williamsburg.

Our state requires us to have yearly evaluations and standardized testing in grades 3, 5, and 8.  This year we have no testing.

So our kids move on to 5th grade, 8th grade, 11th grade.  Kamryn will be 5 in June so I'll start some Kindergarten work with her.

I'm thankful for the freedom to home educate my kids.  I can't imagine our life any other way.

  2. Congratulations to ALL of you! The pictures ARE great :)
I have little doubt but that I'd be homeschooling if our children were school age.
Hope you all find the rest of spring and summer a good respite from the schedule - but NOT from learning!
