A Plate Rack Make-Over
Several years ago, I bought this sweet little plate rack at a yard sale for $2. It was stained a dark brown, and I knew I would paint it white. I began painting it and some else finished it for me. It was not done very well, and had runs of paint on it. So it sat in my basement for two years.
Always in the back of my mind I knew I could make this cute and useful somewhere in my home.
Last month it was sanded and ready to be made over. I had been reading Miriam's blog for a while and wanted to give her milk paint a try, so I purchased some from my favorite store - Fresh Vintage by Amy in Strasburg. Amy is a sweet friend, and very talented. I bought the Ironstone Color and gave it a go.
I like how it turned out, and I decided to use it in my bathroom. I have some items that will be going on these shelves but I am very happy with it.
I am interested in trying a different color on my son's desk. Not sure if I will do milk paint or chalk paint yet. I'm loving trying new paints, other than latex!
Have you tried milk paint or chalk paint? What do you like/or not like about them? Let's talk!

Turned out great! No, I haven't yet tried the new paints, but you're making me want to!
Oh I love it! I would like to have one JUST like it:) Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
Beautiful!
My daughter has tried other paints but I haven't.
Girl, you are on a roll with your freshening and re-making and house-y things! This plate rack is darling...and to think it was only $2.00...even better!
I am working on a small project of my own. I am using milk paint. I have used milk paint before, and I love the finished look...very "flat" and old-ish.
It looks WONDERFUL! I really like your shower curtain too.
What a great "re-do" & place FOR it!
We've experimented with making our own chalk paint. Our projects have turned out fine.
Sometimes the commercial brands of these paints are quite expensive. The verdict is out for us about whether they are that much better than a very good quality/brand of "regular" paint.
