Happy Independence Day

Are you familiar with this quote from John Adams?  Its from a letter to Abigail -

"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. -- I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. -- Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not."

I'm so thankful for our Founding Fathers and Mothers who gave themselves and their fortunes to birth a nation like no other.  I'm honored to be an American, and we will celebrate this day with feasts, and fireworks and games!

Happy Birthday to the United States of America!

He really is such a remarkable person. Have you ever watched the John Adams miniseries based on David McCullough's biography? Excellent!

We finished out watching the John Adams miniseries today. Although not entirely factual, it is a good presentation of what life must've been like then, while retaining many of the pertinent historical moments. I love the quote you shared... hubby and I were discussing it this morning. May God continue to shed His grace on the USA! Happy 4th!!

Information Friday

We had a wonderful wedding weekend in Missouri! We drove, leaving Friday morning and came back on Monday! It was long, but it was worth it...
