Some of you are new to my blog so I thought I would show you how my china hutch used to look before I painted it.
It belonged to my great grandmother, and was given to me after she died. It got some water damage before I took possession of it and I always tried to hide the peeling veneer with some sort of draped material.
Finally, one day I got brave enough to paint it. I am so glad that I did!
I painted it white and did a light green interior, which was pretty, but after a few years, the green paint started peeling. By then I had heard about chalk paint and decided to give the interior an update!
I went with Annie Sloan's Emperor's Silk. What a difference that made! I love it!
The outside is just latex paint but one day I may repaint it in chalk paint. For now it's looking fine.

Dear Deanna:
ReplyDeleteThis so so darling. It kind of brings back memories for me as I had a similar one in my bedroom as a teenager. Yours is so cute and I love it more Shabby Chic than the dark. So glad you shared and linked!
I love it! It's a wonderful thing to redeem something and make it look so good! I'd like to see close ups of the contents! You have such pretty things!
ReplyDeleteA very nice look for this china cabinet. Neat that this belong to one of your GREAT Grandmas. That is really neat.
ReplyDeleteIt's precious at so many levels, Deanna. First because it once belonged to your great grandmother. (Do you remember her?) And now because it serves you well and looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo similar to mine! But mine is not painted. At antique shops I see a lot of them painted white.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! What a treasure! I have many things from my grams, andit makes it special to be using the things she enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day! Christina

ReplyDeleteGreat look, I love those old 20-30's pieces that were a mix of their own style. Great storage and interesting lines...you did a great job! Sandi
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the white, Deanna! I am really into cottage so this is really appealing to me. What a fabulous piece to house your china in. I'm sure your great grandmother would be proud! So glad you shared with us and have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Love it! The red adds rich color and makes a great backdrop against your beautiful tea cups.
ReplyDeleteIt is so beautiful. What a wonderful turn out. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece! I love all your pretty china displayed in it, and that white really gives it such a fresh cottage look. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour hutch looks fantastic, Deanna! I also like the lighter colour.
ReplyDeleteThat was a wonderful save!! I love your china cabinet!! To me, it is one of the signature pieces of Creekside Cottage!

This is you - the red accent works. And the blue and white curtains set off the china, too. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was in Strasburg and bought a hand-painted creamer in anticipation of the small daffodils that are soon to bloom. I'm guessing it will be just the right size for them. Next to it I spied a beautiful cup and saucer (Spode) and thought of you.
ReplyDeleteGreat Granny would love it all cleaned up and full of tea cups
I love painted furniture
Deanna, we have a little china cabinet almost just like yours! It belonged to my husband's grandmother. He gave me permission to paint ours too but I haven't done it yet. Yours looks so pretty with the china tea cups. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
The precious little cabinet is so pretty with its white paint. That was a good move!
ReplyDeleteDeanna-

Dear Deanna:
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the SPECIAL FEATURES on my blog today! Congratulations and thanks for sharing and linking!
That is just amazing. I have a "new to me" china cabinet that I just love - but I want it to be white also. I'm hoping I'm brave enough this summer to paint it. You might just be the inspiration that I need. Your photos are great and the china cabinet looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour hutch truly is so pretty painted! Your post was truly a joy to read and I hope that you will continue adding your ray of sunshine every week on Thoughts of Home on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteThis is just gorgeous, I love how you prettily painted it.
ReplyDeleteDear Deanna,
ReplyDeleteI am featuring this post at No Place Like Home this week. Have a lovely day.
HI Deanna,
ReplyDeleteI just love the transformation of your china cabinet. I have one that is similar but hubby won't let me paint it. I bought pink chalk paint to do it but I guess I will just have to swoon over yours! I am peeking inside to see all of your pretties! So lovely! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Karen
