You've seen the dress I wore to my nephew's wedding, but here is the photo again. Its from Old Navy, and I bought it online.
I'd been looking at several stores locally and just couldn't find something I really liked. My main problem with clothes right now is fit. I am a smaller size in the chest/torso than in the hips/stomach area. If I get good fit on top, it's too tight on the bottom and vice versa. Sigh...
Less than a week before we left for California I had not found anything, and figured I would wear a favorite navy ruffled tank that has a small white print on it, and a navy pencil skirt.
A few years ago I found a cute 'swing' dress at Vanity Fair and really loved the styling and comfort. I thought if I could find a few I would be set for my trip.
We had been at Old Navy and I couldn't find anything in store, but I looked on line and found the dress I wore to the wedding, and several more. A sleeveless green swing dress and a short sleeved berry color were purchased along with the dress for the wedding. They were on sale and then there was a code for 40% more off the original price! I paid for quick shipping and paid just under $80.
I loved them so much, that I decided to buy a few more dresses after I got home. I chose colors and a pattern that will work now but also in the fall/winter if I add leggings, a sweater and boots. This time they were even less expensive and I had a new code for 35% off if I spent a certain amount. So I chose three dresses, the grey, the black and the black geo pattern, didn't need quick shipping so I got free shipping and paid $52 and some change! Win!
You can see the other dresses here, here, here, here, and here. The dress I wore to the wedding is here.
These dresses are great for casual wear but can be dressed up, as well. And like I mentioned they will easily transition for fall and winter, too.
They are the kind of dress that will work for me even if I lose some more weight. They are really forgiving.
One of the items I'm looking to add to my wardrobe for fall is a cropped denim jacket. I really like this look with my black swing dress (which is fuller through the hips). I already have the boots, etc.
I'd also like to find a pair of brown boots this year. I have black boots, black ankle boots and black uggs.
And then maybe a few new cardigans.
Have you purchased any new clothes lately? Thinking about what you may need for fall? Let's chat in the comments!

I have bought several pieces that I can wear into Fall with a little layering:) I love your dress! I do a good bit of shopping on-line, isn't it nice to have your purchases delivered right to the door:) Have a blessed and beautiful day dear friend, HUGS!
Buying clothes is always an adventure for me, too. Same reason as yours...I do not have a body that matches. Ha! My sister was just asking me what I would be wearing for an upcoming event. I suggested what I was wearing that day. She screwed up her face and said, "Hmmmm, no." Guess I looked pretty awful. 😏
Your dress for the wedding is pretty. And buying clothes is not my favorite thing to do either, especially where dresses are concerned. I bought a few things (tops) while in Nevada (at thrift stores) and am pleased with the fit. Mostly I do shop online and I tend to find things I like, that fit me, at Blair.
I really liked some of the cardigans featured on the Old Navy page. I would like another skirt or two for fall, along with a couple of cardigans.
Love the color of that sweater. I'm not good at shopping but boy when I do find something that really is right (comfortable and looking good) I wish I had purchased more of that style. I'm a bit shy of shopping for me online because of the return fees. OF course if the fit is good, there's no return!
I love the purple dress you wore to the wedding. I peeked at some of your links (before we left for the beach this morning!) and I am tempted by some of those dresses. I so seldom wear dresses . . . I wonder if I'd like how I looked in those. I love online shopping, except for clothing! I like to try clothes on before buying them. So often, I have pulled something off the rack thinking it would be great, but after trying it on, I realize that it is not right for me. Conversely, a garment that is "meh" on the hanger can turn out to be a winner. Buying online eliminates that element of decision making.
Have you ever bought a garment online, only to find out that you didn't like how it looked on you?
I love that style board, black dress, boots, jean jacket...my style all the way. I tossed a lot of my clothes this spring. I had things that fit, but didn't really "fit" me anymore. I discovered Dress Barn and I got some fabulous deals. I like Old Navy, too. Classic style, great prices. Your dress is darling!
your navy blue ruffled top should arrive on your doorstep today via USPS. along with your shower cap. wink.
all your choices are really nice and you looked lovely in everything you wore while in california. ♥
love your inspiration board (i'm a lover of black and denim together) and the fact you'll be uses your new pieces with leggings, sweater, etc. great ideas.
I'm beginning to enjoy online clothes shopping! Its easy, if you are willing to do returns when needed!
Oh dear, Vee! Its hard to shop for clothes!
We found four shirts for my daughter at Goodwill before our trip that she loved! We had made all the rounds of other stores first and she didn't really like anything! Thankful for being able to find the shirts she needed!
My mom mostly orders online and is a pro at returns. She finds some good deals too!
I love that sweater color too! I found a similar colored sweater Friday at Target and bought it! I agree that when you find something that fits well and you like it, to buy several in different colors!
Also some places have free returns!
I have! Its a bummer, but I keep looking! That's why when I knew these dresses worked for me, I bought more! Plus the prices are great right now, as they are trying to get rid of their summer stock. I've found classic pieces will work for more than one season by adding a cardigan and some boots! That makes it even better!
Thanks! I do love it! I like that style board too! I've been purging for a while. Why do we hold on to things we no longer like to wear? I have found some really great things at Dress Barn! My jeans I love are from there!
You are so sweet! Don't know who's shower cap that is, though! Lol!
I really like the style of that inspiration board! So great, and easily dressed up or down!
