Big Doings In The Cottage

According to most people there are always "big doings" going on around the cottage. We've got people in and out regularly, most of them are family so I often don't give it a thought. Don't most people live like this?

The grandgirls swam this week! They love the pool!

We have finished our small group study for the year, so we had everyone over yesterday. We grilled a ton of burgers, cooked chicken wings, and everyone brought sides and we ate and talked all afternoon. This group of people just bonded together over the fall, winter, and spring. I've loved getting to know them all, and to grow in our knowledge of what God has given us through prayer.

I also made my cream scones, and we served them with strawberries (its local berry season!), and freshly whipped cream!

There were also brownies, and so delightful.

The real big doings though, is drywall work finally being done in the dining area where our kitchen used to be. Our neighbor, has a drywall business, and gave us a quote last week, and we bit the bullet and its happening even as we speak.

As you look at this back wall you can see that it has had some drywall work, and this week, we finally figured out the lighting in this area too!

We went with a shorter light for over the table, and will use the chandelier somewhere else in the house, probably my bedroom. The wafer lights on the left are over our stairwell. We used to have to lights hanging down over a long cabinet and countertop that is now out in our garage as storage. The wafer light on the right is on a dimmer and allows us to have more lighting as needed for playing games, etc.

When the drywall work is finished we will be doing the painting in this space. I am still loving the way yellow looks in here but trying to decide what yellow to use!

So Many Options.

Then later this summer we will be getting new windows and siding! Dream come true! Thankful for an excellent year of work, and the ability to save money. Our home is nearly 40 years old and the windows are original! They are not in great shape, so we will be helping our heating budget in the winter by replacing them.

With the foundational things being fixed, this house will be ready to be a haven for family and friends for many years to come!

Lovely huge room for entertaining and family time. It's so nice that you can share this space with your parents.

Your big doings sound wonderful. We always have a full house, too and we love it that way! My living room is a Benjamin Moore Philadelphia Cream, but on the walls it's definitely a pale, warm yellow...just in case you didn't have enough paints to choose from!! Haha!!

You know how I love house projects (my own and everybody else's!), so I am excited to read of your "big doings"! It's always a thrill to make progress in your home. Finishing up the drywall . . . painting . . . and then new windows and siding . . . yes, all of it thrilling!!
