I'm In The Mood

For a bit of a chat.

We watched the award ceremonies for the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.  Let me tell you, Christian films have come a long way from my youth.

I was really touched by the acceptance speech of a young filmmaker Brian Ivie, who spoke so beautifully about the subjects of his documentary.  His film,The Drop Box, was about a South Korean pastor who takes in abandoned children, babies really, who have disabilities such as Down's as well as physical disabilities.

“I became a Christian while making this movie. When I started to make it and I saw all these kids come through the drop box - it was like a flash from heaven” - just like these kids with disabilities had crooked bodies, “I have a crooked soul. And God loves me still. Faith in God is the only refuge for people who are deemed unnecessary."

You can read more about the festival and movies here.

We hosted our church family yesterday.  Most of the group went hiking, taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine.  The rest of us stayed at our home and visited and drank tea together.  The conversation turned to homeschooling, as a momma new to our church is longing to teach her kids at home.  I love to encourage these moms that they can do it!

Today we are getting a slow start but that's okay.  We will be reading soon, learning about marine life, doing math, working on grammar, home economics projects, writing.

We will be having Taco Salad for lunch, then latter this afternoon Tim will head to work and we will ease into our evening routine.

I should get going - dry my hair, make my bed, wake Lindsay and Emma....

What are you doing today?

  1. I have watched precious few Christian films that I have actually enjoyed. Maybe none. Ditto "Christian" fiction. It's time to turn that trend around and reach people for the Kingdom.

So far, I've been to my niece's house to visit her cat and give her some attention and fresh food and water. Snowing again so I didn't enjoy the drive with snow on ice at all. Skid here, skid there, and people don't slow down, the rascals.

Now I'm home visiting my blog roll peeps. One of my favorite things in all the world.

Oh, I have soup simmering on the stove.

    Now that really is it.

(Meant to add that it must be a great joy to encourage young mothers to homeschool. The way things are going, I truly believe that it is the way to go.)

  2. I always love a good homeschool chat! And, truth be told, I also love a day that starts slowly. (I have never been a morning person. Even when I get up early, I do not function well until mid morning.)

Our day was quite productive, in spite of a slow-ish start of our own. We are having company tomorrow, and our house needed some serious attention! We have tackled quite a few trouble spots, made cookies and Valentine mints, and had a proper school day too! Hooray!
