The date will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

I love the Fourth of July, even though I love all things British and Scottish! I'm grateful for those Scots preachers who came to the colonies and preached Freedom from tyranny!

Happy 4th!
Those founding fathers (and mothers, too...John Hancock’s wife is a multiple great-aunt and she was very active in the cause) laid it all on the line and many lost everything for it, didn’t they! Founding a nation is not for wimps. Keeping it isn’t either. I have always loved that quote by John Adams.
A very important day. Hope you enjoyed your 4th of July, ours was quiet! Hugs
