Book Talk

I saw this book online in a pile of books someone was given for Christmas, and was immediately intrigued.  Tolkien and Lewis are some of our favorite authors, and I was planning to reread the Lord of the Rings series for the first time in about 17 years.

Some of my favorite things about the books are the way that the characters commit themselves to the task, and to the protection of the ring bearer.

"I am Aragorn son of Arathorn; and if by life or death I can save you, I will."

I've read several chapters and have started reading it with Kyle so we can discuss it.  At the end of each chapter the author brings in a character from C.S. Lewis' Narnia series, that illustrates the point of the chapter.

In the age we live in where darkness is on the rise, as it was in Middle Earth, I find we need encouragement to stay on the Road, and to find companions along the way is better yet.  This book is just what I needed to start the year off on an excellent foot.

What are you reading in January?

Nothing this deep, though it sounds very good. I’m still on Christmas cozies by Miss Read.

I've been writing a lot lately, freelancing, so I'm reading...me! Proofreading that is. Hopefully I'll get a schedule down soon that includes a little fun reading. Enjoy your book!

That's two things you've inspired me to look up-- Hillsdale College and this book!

A variety of books! One mystery, one medical novel, one First Nations perspective. I, too, love Lewis and Tolkien. This sounds good.

I have yet to pick up a book in 2019. Kristin gave me a book for Christmas that is on the top of my list when I get a chance. It is Auschwitz Lullaby and sounds intriguing.
