My Table

This is the table that Tim built - nearly two years ago while I was in California with Rachel for my niece's wedding.  I came home to a dream farmtable.

We have kept it covered with a vinyl table protector for all this time, until Tim could get it finished.  Today he decided was the day for it's transformation to begin!

It seats twelve easily and is nice and wide - it is a work space as well as a table.  School is often done here, as well as sewing, cooking and games.  Oh, and lest we forget it's real purpose - lots of eating!

Tim and Lindsay moved it to the deck and he began the process of sanding.  When he left for work, I told him I would stop by the hardware store to get the finer grit sanding belt he needs for tomorrow, when I picked up Emily from work.  The hardware store was closed.  So I went to our favorite Tractor Supply store and they only carry the round sanders.  I was told that Wal-Mart sold them, so after I picked up Em, we went to Wally World.  They do sell them, but not the right size.  Sigh.  Oh, well.  I guess he'll just have to stop someplace on his way home from breakfast with his brother in the morning.  Em and I stopped for fuel at Costco and realized that Lowe's is right there!  So we went to Lowe's and bagged the right size sanding belts!  Success!

The table is going to have a medium darkish stain.  I can't wait until it is finished.  Of course, I'll show you photos!

  1. Beautiful! I would love to have the same, but I love my grandmother's Danish teak table too much. Maybe I need a bigger house, so I can have both...

As for stain, can't wait to see it finished. My favorite stain is Minwax Provincial. Does best on oak, but have used it to good effect on pine. Don't know what your table is.

  5. Looks beautiful! I love style of table. Ours is very similar - an antique HS lab table that my husband and I bought at an auction. We had it refinished, and I store my table linens in the drawers. It has lots of character! Hoping someday to get some simple chairs to match ... until then, we use what we have.

  6. A great table! You are so blessed to have the room for it. Know what else looks great on farm tables? Old-fashioned oil cloth...yup, a scrumptious look. Oh this is going to be a good reveal.

Loved your answer in my comments today. We could all probably write a blog post answering that question. It really was a great question hopefully eliciting some insightful responses. I may have scared everyone off as you're the only one to answer thus far. ☺

  7. How great that table is! I look forward to seeing the finished product. Of all the things I've regretted selling, our big farm-style table is maybe at the top of the list. My husband made it out of recycled legs and wonderful old wood. It was gorgeous.

It was a little large for our current dining area, but I could have/SHOULD have made it work. I thought I'd moved on, but your post brought it all back up again :)

  9. What a beautiful table! Good, good hubby...

*2 of the hens just started getting out 3 days ago, so I needed to do a bit of research. We are chicken newbies and didn't even know if it was o.k. to clip their wings. We'll be hitting our wise friend the internet later today.

    Blessings, Debbie

  12. Oh, that is a dream table! I remember an author sharing that her table had gotten scratched and dented over the years, but she didn't mind because they were reminders of the beautiful moments her family spent around the table. Our children gather around our dining table, too, to do their lessons.

I'm sure it's going to look simply wonderful when he's done.

  14. Hi Deanna,
Love that biog farm table, lovely work!! Your shopping sounds like mine, I think I want the simpilist thing, and it just can't be found anywhere. But... if I wasn't looking for it I know it would be everywhere:-))
I had always called it Queen Anne's Lace, so I googled it and it looks like just another variety, I have never seen the flat kind before... so pretty!! Your daughter is a flower lover and sharp!
    Hugs,
    Bella
