Yard Sale Treasure

These first two things are not yard sale treasures, but a project I tried this week.  I hate the boring color of these plastic chairs and Krylon makes a spray paint for plastic.  I decided to try it in red, of course.

I really like it!  It adheres perfectly - no scratching paint off!

And so much cuter than tan!  I am painting more chairs today!

Here is some mint my friend Brigette gave me from her yard.  I need to plant it this week.  Here in Lancaster County many people call this tea, because they make "meadow tea" from mint.  This of course is not a tea plant.  Oh, and did you know that you can tell plants in the mint family because they have square stems?  I kid you not - check it out for yourself!
Okay, now on to the yard sale treasures!

This is a queen size dust ruffle that I bought for $3.  I thought it might work as a tablecloth for my massive table, but no, it was too small.  Then I realized that it would be perfect for my chair, which must be covered to hide its worn and hideous state!  It is PERFECT!  I really love it and those yellow stripes are just right for the tone in my living room this spring/summer!

See, perfect!  Sheets ,tablecloths, bedspreads and quilts are perfect for covering furniture that is, shall we say, well worn?

See how cute it can look?

Oh and he's pretty cute too!  I just love this face and the boy who wears the it!  I get to see this happy little man everyday!

Here is another treasure, since that is what this post is supposed to be about!  A solid wood, plate rack shelf!  LOVE it!  I am going to paint it of course.  It was $2.

See all the nice details?  I am not sure where I am going to hang this yet, but it will come to me!

More treasure - an old copy of G.A. Henty's "By Pike and Dyke."  For $2, a ceramic old lamp for $1.25, and a picnic basket for $3.

Sarah and I just knew we had to have the little oil lamp - these things make us happy!

This is real treasure!  I am not sure what I am going to do with it for sure yet.  It would be perfect to hold my hair dryer and curling iron and hair goo, in my bedroom.  But I can also see it with some potted plants in it.

I must run now!  Have a glorious day!

All of your purchases are great! I'm particularly interested in how you used the dust ruffle for a chair cover. It looks SO wonderful in your picture. I think I'll break down and try it (even though my past efforts to cover and tuck, etc. have left me disappointed). I've never tried a dust ruffle before.

The plate rack is great - and the price even better! I'm sure you WILL find a fine place for it.

You found some glorious treasures and I am inspired to try the spray paint on plastic chairs idea. Your red chair turned out great. That is a new idea to me.

I've Been Blogging For How Many Years?!

Here is what Creekside Cottage looked like when I first started to blog! The picket fence was new and the posts didn't have their tops...
