All The News That Fit To Print

That was the motto of the New York Times, but this post has nothing to do with that.  This is just a bit of news from Creekside Cottage and the people living here.

We have succeeded in growing cantaloupe this year!  There are at least two more out on the vine.  It was tasty and so fun to be able to pick it in the garden.  We are also doing well in the tomato department!  We planted four this year and had volunteers spring up.  The grape tomatoes are so good.

Kyle's 10th birthday party was a smashing success.  He and his friends played and had so much fun. And of course, Miss Kamryn front and center like the princess that she is.  She kept up with those boys through sheer determination!

Kyle is wearing the Star Wars Minecraft t-shirt Rachel got him.

He wanted a homemade cake, so Rachel made it from scratch and I made the frosting.  It is Hershey's Deep Dark Chocolate Cake recipe from the back of the cocoa can. And the frosting is from there too.  We've been making this cake for over 25 years so I actually don't know if the recipe is still on the cocoa container or not.  If you'd like the recipe, let me know and I'll send it to you!

Rachel is now employed at Chick-fil-A.  The young man who is training her used to work with Emma and Lindsay when they were young and worked at a corn maze.  He is now putting himself through college.  Fun bit of family trivia for you, aren't you glad you know that?

We started our school year on Tuesday and it's going smoothly.  Sarah has been happy that our family computer died, because that means she hasn't had to do math these past few days.  Fear not that my children will be lacking.  The new computer should arrive today!  People always wonder why we start so early.  It is because I like to be done before Mother's Day Weekend when we have our homeschool convention, as I am all about looking ahead to the next school year and buying books and materials for that.  It is no fun to have several weeks of school to do still after that.

The other reason is I like to build margin into our school year.  That way besides the holidays we take breaks for, if we have something unexpected come up, we can take some days off and not feel stressed that we are behind.

In five Saturday's it will be Nate and Kay's wedding day!  That means four more weeks to get the yard and flower beds prepared!  There is a lot of trimming that needs to take place things are looking straggly, as well.

We are having dinner tonight at our Amish friend's house and tomorrow I am having lunch with a group of homeschooling moms.  My friend Karen Andreola and I have been planning it for a few weeks.  I'm excited that a few church friends are coming and that Cheryl is coming too! I will finally get to meet Heather, too!  I can't wait.

What's happening in your neck of the woods?

Nice to see the beaming faces of the birthday party group and it doesn't surprise me that a little sister can keep up with the boys!
Wish I lived closer as I'd come over and help with the gardening but instead will send good wishes for healthy plants and lots of colour for the wedding.
After a week of near 90F temperatures we're back to normal of high 60s to mid 70's which is perfect weather for me.
