Tea On Tuesday

I read an interesting article online yesterday that said in Britain traditional black tea drinking was going out of style as more young people were turning to coffee and herbal teas.  {here}

It's sad to think of and yet, in my own family, most are coffee drinkers. I certainly hope companies don't close.  The price of regular tea could skyrocket if there are fewer sources to buy from. And what happens to economies that depend on tea growing?  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't drink coffee, but I do enjoy many kinds of tea, including chai.  And I drink both hot and iced teas.  When my girls want to go to Starbucks, I order either a hot or iced chai latte.  Yum!

The article I linked said that young people want experiences, and I believe that's true.  So how do we go about giving young people tea experiences?  Perhaps companies need to be more innovative with teas, both flavors and preparation.  I've seen people use a french press for tea, and I think that's brilliant!

Maybe young people think only of tea as formal tea parties (which you know I love!).  Maybe they don't see how it can be casual with food, and warming, and relaxing!

What do you think?

For me I'm going to do my part in saving the tea market.  I'm brewing a pot of tea as I type this post!

  1. I have to have coffee in the morning but after that, I enjoy trying all kinds of tea. I admit to not using regular black tea very much like my daughter enjoys. I like Earl Grey and other blends of black tea but I also like various green teas and herbal teas. Stephanie prefers English Breakfast tea.

  2. I can't imagine that tea will ever disappear. I know so many people who love it and drink it regularly, preferring it to coffee. I never drink coffee myself. Perhaps, if climate change advances and things heat up, I'll grow my own tea! There is one blogger who lives a wee bit south of us who does that. Enjoy your tea!

  3. I really like Earl Grey, Lady Grey, English Breakfast, Irish Tea. I have always wanted to go to a Tea Room and have tea and learn about it. I read the Teashop cozy mysteries and that gives me insight to different teas. My husband drinks British Tea that he orders. smiles

  4. Oh, I hope they don't quit making PG Tips-it's one of my favorites! We were in Great Britain in October and there still seemed to be a lot of tea drinkers, though they were more people my age and older (mid-60's)-PG Tips was one of the brands I was served the most. I would even order a pot of tea when we were in pubs! Yorkshire Tea is also delicious. I can't drink coffee much anymore and I've never been very fond of herb teas.

  5. Balance in all things. A lot of economies depend upon coffee drinking, too. I like coffee to get the day going and tea in the afternoon to keep it going and chamomile tea in the evening to slow it down. I was just giving that serious consideration.

  6. I'm a tea drinker all the way. For many years I drank lots of coffee, but 23 years ago I switched to tea and never looked back. I even mix my own breakfast loose leaf tea with black, jasmine and green teas. I feel it's better for us than coffee but understand that many (most) folks love their coffee! Give me chai tea or a London Fog for a special drink!

  7. I have no doubt tea will be around until the end of time! I drink both coffee and tea. Hot coffee and iced tea. I drink it by the gallon so I’m doing my part in keeping it on the market!

  8. I love a good chai latte, yum! I'm not a coffee drinker either, but I do love the smell of it. My morning drink is herbal tea, that's how I always start my day! I think the world is changing so fast, who knows what will be the popular drink in a year or two!?
