What is Your Motivation?

Today's subject At The Well is about why we do the things we do. As women there are many things we are responsible for and that we get involved with. Have you ever considered what your motivation is in doing these things?

Ask yourself these questions:

Do you go to church to fulfill an obligation?
Over the years, I confess, that there have been times that my attendance at church was because of obligation. Sometimes it was because God has asked us to not to not forsake gathering together with believers. Sometimes it was because, even though our hearts were hurting, we went to church for our children's sake.

Do you get involved to get a reaction from someone; possibly pity, recognition or even money?
I am a get involved kind of person. I am sure that at times in my life I have chosen to do certain activities because it would allow me to get to know people, but never for money or pity. Over the years I have learned to not get involved in activities, even if they are good, without checking with my husband first. He often has a better perspective on whether I should be involved than I do.

Do you volunteer in your child’s classroom to analyze the new teacher or is it to help?

As a home educating mom, I am the teacher!

Do you share prayer requests for a chance to gossip or because you truly care and are praying?

I work hard to not gossip. Being a leader of a co-op, I know what it is like to have someone talk about you to others. I think we must continually check ourselves and work to gain mastery of our tongue. Sometimes that means stopping in the middle of a statement or conversation and saying "forgive me, I shouldn't be talking to you about this."

I think it is a good thing to check ourselves and ask the Lord to show us if we have less than proper motives. God knows our hearts and He will work to grow us into His image.

  3. Thanks so much for joining us at the well!

I am there with you on gossiping. This is something I try earnestly not to do, I know God does not want us to do it, and I have seen the negative results of gossip.

    Thanks for sharing!
