Me, At 58

As you know my birthday was on Sunday. I turned 58 years old. I don't feel old, particularly, and of course I still think of myself as being in my 30's.

I think age is in our minds, partly. My mom is young for her age, in looks and behavior. Of course she'll only admit to being 39, but I've told her that while she looks great for her age, she doesn't look so good for 39! Ha ha ha!

I took a few car selfies while waiting for my mom, who had an early morning appointment.

The light was good, but I didn't have any lips balm on, so I added that and took another photo. Lip color makes a big difference, doesn't it?

I'm getting greyer and I don't color my hair. I've got all my youthful freckles, and a few age spots.

I still have lower back issues, and somedays are better than others.  I have so much blessing in my life. Years ago, I decided to choose to life joyfully. This didn't require my circumstances to be perfect or all the people in my life to always be happy and at peace. All it required was for me to have eyes to see the good, the blessings, the way God was helping me, the beauty around me. That has brought me joy.

I hope you know the source of joy as well.

  1. You are a beautiful 58 years old!! I think a lot about aging these days . . . as my parents age and have health issues. As Ron nears retirement. As we see our "children" maturing and our grandchildren grow up before our eyes. I agree with you when you say "I think age is in our minds, partly." I very much agree with that word "partly" because aging is a reality. But our attitude and our gratitude go a long way towards making the most of the changes and challenges that age brings.

Remembering this quote by Billy Graham:
"While the Bible doesn't gloss over the problems we face as we grow older, neither does it paint old age as a time to be despised or a burden to be endured with gritted teeth."

And this verse of Holy Scripture:
Even to your old age and gray hairs . . . I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." Isaiah 46:4 NIV

(Sorry for the book-ish comment! Like I said, I have been thinking about this a lot!)

  2. Happy birthday, beautiful Deanna! Lovely photos, and I agree, lipstick really adds that extra touch of chic. I never go anywhere without it. Living joyfully, connected to the One who is Joy Himself, really is the way to go through this life on planet earth. Happy Wednesday!

  3. And along with everything else, you have a glorious smile!

Glad you are not coloring your hair. Such a silliness, which I indulged in for a while. Finally came to my senses, as the old saying goes.

You are one pretty and great looking lady, at 58.

And always keep your mind, younger than the calendar says!!!!!!!!!!!

    Gentle hugs,

  4. 😁We have known each other for a decade more or less and you have not changed a bit. Still beautiful after all these years. 😁 Obviously, you have inherited those good genes your mama passed down. Yes, lip balm is a good thing so is a gorgeous smile and a cheerful countenance. Hope you're having a great birthday week!

  5. You are beautiful, inside and out. I hope you had a wonderful birthday and continue to live joyfully. I love that idea and try to do it myself, but haven't ever described it that way. I'm going to use your term, it has a lovely ring to it.
