Gifts

Late last week I was on Instagram and was watching stories from Rhoda of Southern Hospitality blog. {here}She had on great earrings and so I messaged her to see where she purchased them.

She messaged back that they were from a company called Grace and Heart that sell silver jewelry, she was a consultant for them for a year, but wasn't doing that anymore. She gave me the name of the consultant that she had worked through, and her contact information. Sarah Newman at Sarahnewman@graceandheart.com got back to me quickly. I found out that they retired the design two years ago (boo!) but that she had a sample set that she would sell to me. (yay!) We arranged payment and the earrings were on their way!

I got them yesterday and put them on right away, and took a picture! I was painting at the time but I didn't care. I love them!

Before I ordered them I asked Tim what he thought and he said, "Happy Valentine's Day!" (grin)

The painting I was doing was on my paint by numbers that I received from my son in law Weston for Christmas.

They recommend that you start with the dark colors first so that's what I did.

This is how it looked when I needed to stop and make dinner.

I have a long way to go, but I'm exited to see how it turns out.

I was thinking this morning about this gift from my son in law. It's really neat, there is a guide, everything I need to create a painting for my home, that will add to the uniqueness and beauty of my home.

In my mind I thought that's like how believers are given spiritual gifts. The Lord gifts us with differing gifts that had beauty and grace to the body of Christ.

But just like I had to purpose to use my gift from Wes, so we have to use the spiritual gifts we are given. I could have felt very intimidated by the thought of painting all those tiny shapes with the numbers in them. I could have left the gift hidden in its box, where it wouldn't enhance the atmosphere of my home.

I feel as if, at church, I have been 'hiding' in a box, and not seeing where God may want me to use the gifts he has gifted me with. But I need to get out of 'hiding', and find a place that the gifts I've been given can enhance the atmosphere where we worship with other believers.

I'm ready.

  1. A truly thoughtful gift...one that you can spend time creating and then years enjoying. I like the earrings, too. Tim's comment was funny.

  2. Ooohh, can hardly wait to see your painting finished! That will be so beautiful and will look lovely in your home! // I have found over my (so far) lifetime that my "gifts" change now and again... they don't stay the same. I hadn't realized that for a long time until about 7-8 years ago. Other people I know have said the same thing. I believe as we age, the Lord brings to light different things about us as time goes on... he leads us to focus on "new" pieces (that we didn't notice before) of "us" to use for His good. Blessings to you, Deanna!

  3. Thank you for sharing this object lesson with us! It took us a while to come out of "hiding" when we had to change churches. But we all need what the other members of the body have to contribute, don't we? I look forward to hearing how you are using your gifts!

Also . . . love those earrings! It's a good thing you noticed and reached out to the representative. So you have the last pair?!

  5. I believe God puts us where we need to be. Your blog is a gift. I find it so on point, family oriented, cozy and homey as well as your coverage of todays world topics that we don't read about in the main stream. Thank you for showing us a real mom, in a real home in a real family and daily living. It is so refreshing.

  6. Great earring story! Where there's a will, there's a way. Can't wait to see your painting when it's complete. That is one of my favorite patterns. The colors are stunning!
