Book Chat

Motivational speaker Charlie "Tremendous" Jones used a saying that Tim likes to repeat "You will be the same person in 5 years except for the books you read and the people you meet."

I believe this is true!

My friend, author Barbara Cornthwaite, has written a two book series based on Jane Austen's Emma. This book, and book two, are written from Mr. Knightley's point of view.

If you like Jane Austen, you'll love this series.

If you have children or grandchildren, I highly recommend the Green Ember Series by SD Smith. You can find his website {here}.

Rabbits with swords!

"Heather and Picket are extraordinary rabbits with ordinary lives until calamitous events overtake them, spilling them into a cauldron of misadventures. They discover that their own story is bound up in the tumult threatening to overwhelm the wider world.

Kings fall and kingdoms totter. Tyrants ascend and terrors threaten. Betrayal beckons, and loyalty is a broken road with peril around every bend.

Where will Heather and Picket land? How will they make their stand?"

I am a fan of Jean Stoffer's design work. I love her style. I received her book for Christmas and have enjoyed what I've read so far.

From the publisher -

What is your unique path to a more beautiful and fulfilling life? Walk alongside award-winning designer Jean Stoffer as she chronicles her own surprising, unhurried journey and be encouraged that there’s plenty of time to discover yours.

When Jean Stoffer’s husband announced he was quitting his extremely stressful job to look for another career, she suddenly needed to bring in a lot more of the family income. The problem was, while she had a degree in business, her part-time job paid very little and she had few obvious options for earning more anytime soon. In Establishing Home, Jean tells how necessity sparked her journey from part-time receptionist to founder of an award-winning home design company and star of the Magnolia Network’s show, The Established Home. Along the way, she shares what’s she learned about design, business, parenting, and relationships. In Establishing Home Jean will:

  • Inspire you to discover a dream you didn’t know you had
  • Reassure you that whether you’re building a career, raising a family, or redoing your home, it’s okay to slow down and enjoy the journey
  • Teach you practical ideas for combining work and family—and how to work in harmony with adult children
  • Reveal her pro tips for making your home a beautiful place to be
  • Provide gorgeous 4-color photos of her classic, elegant designs for your own inspiration

Any home—and life—can become even more beautiful with a little bit of heart.

"Be as careful of the books you read, as the company you keep; for your habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as by the latter."

~Paxton Hood

Sometimes, I reread favorite books, and when 2020 lockdowns happened I reread all of Jan Karon's Mitford series! It was comforting to be with old friends, even if they were only in a book!

In 2022 I listened to more books than I actually read! I'll share them here -

I have greatly enjoyed these Jane Austen Mysteries by Stephanie Barron! As I said, I've listened to books more than I read last year. I was able to do things like knit, cook, bake, clean, paint and still enjoy a great book!

  1. An eclectic gathering of books you have shared here. When I read book reviews I always feel like reading the books mentioned. I have learned to be careful, though, because I have purchased a number of clinkers lately. I am sure that someone else might enjoy them and have figured out a way to donate them surreptitiously. This pleases me. 📚 Now perhaps I need to reread a Jan Karon book.

  2. I'm a huge fan of children's books. I guess it's the kindergarten teacher in me. I still have a bookcase filled with them so when the littles come over, I can share. Thanks for the suggestions, thos bunnies are new to me! Bunnies with swords made me giggle...

~ Fun to see what you're reading, and I love the photo of your little reader! I am starting the year off with a book that a friend gave me, a biography of Kim Collingsworth.
~ Happy (belated) Anniversary! You and Tim do make a good team!
~ Happy (also belated) New Year! Your New Year's weekend looks like a wonderful blend of celebration and quiet. That's my kind of weekend!
