Let's Chat

This photo is cropped terribly but I love the items in the photo!

A friend shared these verses this morning and it so encouraging. God's word is living and full of instruction.

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5

Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

Kyle and I used a sharpie on these oranges last year and made little jack o'lanterns! It would be fun to do with small kids, too!

I am going to make orange slices again this year for tucking into my decor, but I am going to use Kay's dehydrator rather than my oven. I've been doing a bit of research and have found that the slices done in the dehydrator will have better color. I'll show you when I do them. Maybe this weekend.

I also want to make these ice candle holders. I am hosting a Christmas party the first week of December and wouldn't these look so good outside welcoming my guests?

Have you ever made these? You can find the link {here} to how I made them.

Have you done any Christmas shopping yet? I have three of my grands gifts. I came upon them one by one, and knew I shouldn't wait. I try to not get them big things. They live in a small place. They will really enjoy their gifts though!

We draw names for the grown ups in the family and we did that this week. Now everyone knows who they are buying for, and contact that person for gift ideas.

Tim and I usually still buy for our kids, too. We usually gift the marrieds a gift card for dinner out, but gas cards would be welcomed this year, wouldn't they. I saw someone say that you could gift a homemade meal, too.

Sometimes we gift our Tennessee family an experience like a drive through lights place that charges and then pizza out afterward. Sometimes our daughter has sent individual gift ideas that end up being less expensive than the 'experience.' We let them give us the ideas.

If you have book lovers, you could check out used books stores, or library used book sales. I've gotten a lot of really nice books at places like these.

I'd love to hear what you do for gifts for the grown ups in your family! Or what you give for family gifts. Let's share in the comments!

Our ladies ministry at church is having a wreath making evening. I think Rachel and I are going to go to that. It's $12 to make a wreath, and $5 more if you want to make another one! Sounds reasonable to me. It should be a fun event.

I love all scripture but this is a great verse! Thank you for posting.
I've dried apples and oranges in the dehydrator to use for decorating. Never have I seen the ice candle ring. So clever and inexpensive!! We have pomegranate trees and pines. Some have huge cones but some have itty-bitty ones. The tiny ones will be perfect for this project. On Fridays, I host 5 friends for sewing. I'm always trying to think of different decorating ideas and meals that are easy, different, and good. This will be a decorating idea I use in December. You said it will only last an hour or so but still a great idea. A suggestion for an inexpensive and good tasting meal, for anyone reading this, is I shopped a local Mexican market. They have tamales that taste and look like they're home made. When buying a dozen, they are discounted. It made for an easy meal along with a salad and not too costly.
Thank you for sharing and enjoy wreath making. It's a good deal and I'm sure a great time of fellowship.

  2. I make my oranges into mini jack-o-lanterns & fill them with mixed fruit. Here is a picture from last year.

    My grandson loves them.

I dry citrus & apple slices in my dehydrator for decorating & eating. I sometimes dip the apples in lemon juice to help them keep a prettier color. I hope to string some for Christmas this year.

I've finished the Advent calendar I make every year for a friend. We're getting together next week to make one for another friend. I only plan to buy 3 gifts this year so haven't thought much about them yet. Two are grown ups, my husband & son. We usually exchange lists with links to what we want. It's fun to get what you really want!

  3. For several years now, I have dried oranges to use in my Christmas decorating. I love how it makes the house smell as I am prepping them and I love decorating with natural items! Gifts can be a challenge. We have a large family and I am a procrastinator. I relish the autumn season right through Thanksgiving and then . . . oops . . . I guess I should have gotten started a little earlier on my Christmas shopping.

  4. I am making new stockings this year for everyone and all my gifts will fit into their stockings. Well, nearly all! I chose shoes this year....for the quad grand girls - fancy low heels. Shoes for Amber from the wish list she made. I hope to find some cool house shoes for Harrison and my other grandsons and a pair of slippers for Faith. There will be other things in their stockings as well but I am trying my best to be a good gifter this year and still stay in my budget.

  5. Those oranges made me laugh! I love them. I think you have some great plans and they're reminding me that I am SO very behind for Christmas. I have no gifts and no plans. We have a huge family, but as you know, now that the little kids are big kids, live in other states and have kids of their own, things are a little last minute. Babies get sick, weather interrupts travel plans, etc. So we still have to figure out the who and the where...and I need to get shopping!!
